Parma 0-0 Roma: Marino And Ranieri Both On The Verge Of Dismissal After Stalemate

Parma and Roma played out an uneventful 0-0 draw at Stadio Ennio Tardini as their respective coaches appear to be on the verge of dismissal. Parma remain in the relegation zone while Roma lurk below mid-table as both Ranieri and Marino have a maximum of one game each to save their jobs.

Both sides would have been forgiven for making nervous starts to the game considering their current predicaments but the opening exchanges were lively.

As early as the third minute the lively Fernando Marques struck a fierce drive from 25 yards which Bogdan Lobont was forced to punch to safety.

As the half continued Giallorossi started to see more possession than that the home side but struggled to create clear-cut chances. On 35 minutes the talismanic Francesco Totti saw his 35 yard free-kick narrowly head over the bar.

The best chance of the first half fell to the Crociati in the 39th minute. Good play down the left from Alessandro Lucarelli saw the centre-back play in Massimo Gobbi who played a delightful chipped ball to the back-post. Fernando Marques was unmarked but could not keep his effort down from six yards as the ball flew over Lobont's goal.

The second half started with the home side in the ascendancy as they looked for the goal that would ultimately take them off the bottom of Serie A.

Yet it was the Lupi who fashioned the first real chance of the second period. On 58 minutes a Cicinho corner was acrobatically met by Phillippe Mexes. The defender's scissor kick was heading goalwards only for a Francesco Valiani deflection to direct it narrowly wide.

The away side continued to press for a much sought after winner and on 76 minutes, substitute Stefano Okaka saw his 25 yard drive comfortably saved as both sides continued to create chances.

A quick breakaway by Roma on 85 minutes looked like creating that elusive winner. Julio Baptista had Okaka in space in a three against two situation just inside the Parma box. However 'the Beast' was sloppy on the ball and ended up playing it to Antonelli.

Parma entertain Chievo next Sunday in a crunch tie while Ranieri will be hoping to still be in charge for Roma's game versus Lecce at Stadio Olimpico on Saturday.
