Malaga 1-3 Valencia: Ruthless Los Che Romp To Victory
Joaquin Sanchez stars as Valencia pick up their first win of the season ...
By Vasil Kotsev
Valencia claimed an impressive victory tonight as new signing Aritz Aduriz scored his first league goal for Los Che and Joaquin Sanchez recorded a brace. Malaga had their chances throughout the ninety minutes, but were put to the sword by the clinical Los Che.
Valencia were quickest out of the blocks and repeatedly threatened to open the scoring in the first five minutes. Jesus Gamez in particular was having a torrid time against Vicente, who occasionally skinned the promising defender.
It was Valencia who managed to break the deadlock with ten minutes on the clock, when Aritz Aduriz was left with a free header in the penalty box, following a Joaquin corner. The ex-Athletic Bilbao striker had a chance to double his team's advantage five minutes later, but his first-time volley was poor and the chance went begging.
Malaga managed to pick themselves up and were growing in confidence as the match approached half-time. In some rather unfortunate circumstances, Malaga managed to score an equaliser through Sebastian Fernandez in the first-half injury time. Eliseu took a free-kick on the right and the ball deflected off the striker and nested in the net behind Cesar Sanchez.
The second half continued with Malaga pressing for a winner, obviously motivated to break their jinx against Valencia. It was never to be as Joaquin scored twice in the space of five minutes with a quarter to the final whistle. First he volleyed from the left-hand side of the penalty area for his first of the night and in the 75th minute he completed his brace with a well-taken finish from inside the penalty box.
Malaga tried to mount the comeback, but were obviously affected by the disappointing turn of events and rarely managed to trouble Sanchez. Valencia, for their part, had more chances to score, but substitutes Alberto Costa and Pablo Hernandez could not put away the chances that came their way.
Valencia host Racing in their next La Liga fixture on 12th September and Malaga travel to Real Zaragoza, looking for their first win of the season.
