    Iker Casillas

Quiet for long periods of the evening but when he was called upon did it with the minimal amount of fuss. One good save with the scores at 2-0 prevented the game from becoming a contest.

  • Marcelo
    388
    35
    4.00

    Marcelo

Brilliant running all night long. Scored a fantastic goal just before half-time which guaranteed the game. Added something to every attack, sending in wonderful crosses. Defensive duties few and far between but coped well.

  • Ricardo Carvalho
    223
    34
    3.00

    Ricardo Carvalho

Controlled the Madrid defence. Marshalled the players and was always there in support. Ventured forward, as is customary but to no avail. Shifted the ball quickly and efficiently.

  • Raúl Albiol
    214
    40
    3.00

    Raúl Albiol

Did well on his return to the starting XI. Cleared up any danger easily, moved the ball forward quickly and was dominant in the air.

  • Sergio Ramos
    234
    46
    3.00

    Sergio Ramos

Easy game from Ramos, defended when he needed to. Always offered himself in attack. Tidy performance.

  • C. Ronaldo
    759
    638
    4.50

    C. Ronaldo Top of the Match

Continues to amaze. Scorer of three goals, involved in pretty much all of the goals bar the opener. Played with a smile on his face, enjoying it. Took himself off after he scored his third, due to a possible injury.

  • Lassana Diarra
    238
    58
    3.00

    Lassana Diarra

Ran the midfield for the game, dominated Malaga. Controlled the tempo from deep and allowed the attacking players to do what they do best.

  • Mesut Özil
    435
    57
    3.50

    Mesut Özil

Everywhere in attack. Left, right, centre. Popped up, linking passages of play expertly. Unlucky not to get on the score sheet with a fizzing free-kick but did assist a couple of the goals.

  • Xabi Alonso
    264
    45
    3.50

    Xabi Alonso

Spread the ball with ease throughout his stay on the pitch, sitting back letting the more creative players open Malaga up. Terrific set-piece delivery all night. Substituted early in the second half.

  • Ángel Di María
    824
    38
    4.00

    Ángel Di María

Scorer of a fine goal after finding himself one-on-one, putting the ball home without any fuss. Found Marcelo for his side’s third with a delicate chipped pass, and showed signs of his creative talent all night. Substituted early in the second half.

  • Karim Benzema
    453
    57
    4.00

    Karim Benzema

Started poorly, but as soon as the first goal went in he was a different player. Linked attack well, also offered himself long or short. Got on the end of crosses and was constantly putting Malaga under pressure.

Substitutions

  • Canales
    372
    35
    3.00

    Canales

Assisted Ronaldo’s third after great determination to win the ball and send in a delicious cross. Should have had a goal of his own but just missed the target with a volley. Promising signs from the youngster.

  • Emmanuel Adebayor
    220
    52
    3.50

    Emmanuel Adebayor

Really wanted a goal but it never fell for him, instead he supplied others with the chances to score and did it brilliantly, even though they missed. Injected some life back into the attacks when they were beginning to slow down.

  • Fernando Gago
    216
    25
    3.00

    Fernando Gago

Came on for Xabi Alonso and continued where the passing maestro had left off. Spread the ball around, broke up play and even managed to get forward once or twice.

  • Willy Caballero
    38
    37
    3.00

    Willy Caballero

The man that stopped Madrid from getting to double figures. Pulled off a stunning double save late on with the game finished, he showed commitment to the cause. At fault for a couple of the goals but the majority he could do nothing about.

  • Manu Torres
    21
    30
    2.00

    Manu Torres

Not a game to remember here. Gave the ball away on numerous occasions, was caught out by Madrid’s movement and looked unhappy to be on the pitch.

  • Weligton
    14
    33
    2.00

    Weligton

Positioned himself poorly throughout the evening allowing the attackers to find holes in the defence much easier than they should have been allowed. Handled the ball trying to score, when he could have got his head to it. Gave up.

  • Martín Demichelis
    31
    40
    1.50

    Martín Demichelis

Demichelis could do very little against the class of Madrid but from the off he allowed the attackers too much space on the edge of his own area. Failed to get tight to his men, and never led his team-mates.

  • Manolo
    55
    71
    1.50

    Manolo Flop of the Match

Game to forget for the full-back. He missed the interception for Di Maria’s goal which put Madrid 2 up; Malaga were still in the game at the point. As the game continued he was continuously breached. Over-ran by Marcelo, Oezil and others. Performance reached new lows when he gave a penalty away, earning his second yellow card and an early bath.

  • Sandro Silva
    9
    20
    2.00

    Sandro Silva

Charged with breaking up play which he did do quite well until the opening goal. When Madrid took the lead Silva gave up the chase and accepted defeat.

  • Eliseu
    13
    23
    2.00

    Eliseu

Mirrored Manolo’s performance, with a slight improvement. Got forward to good effect, sending in some inviting crosses but in defence offered very little resistance to Oezil’s movement.

  • Fernando
    13
    26
    1.50

    Fernando

Had a couple of long range efforts that were well wide but at least he showed some attacking intent. Overrun by Madrid’s superior midfield, unable to get any time on the ball to influence the game. Partly his own fault, but also because of the way Madrid played.

  • Camacho
    17
    21
    2.00

    Camacho

With the game at 0-0 got on the ball with a purpose, looked to bring others into play and inject pace into his side’s attacks but as Madrid scored the goals he become more and more anonymous. Lack of heart and determination.

  • Quincy Owusu-Abeyie
    26
    20
    2.50

    Quincy Owusu-Abeyie

One of the few players with any spirit on show. His pace caused problems and had a shot tipped around the post by Casillas with the score at 2-0. Drove forward, an example to his players. Subbed to preserve energy for the weekend.

  • Juanmi
    18
    36
    2.00

    Juanmi

You wouldn’t have known he was on the pitch for looking. Dormant all night, no energy, no pace, no urgency. Failed to close down and didn’t offer himself for a pass.

Substitutions

  • Sebastián Fernández Miglierina
    16
    22
    2.00

    Sebastián Fernández Miglierina

Had the best opportunity for his side straight after coming on but dragged his shot well wide. Came on for the ineffective Juanmi but the game was already lost.

  • Kris Stadsgaard
    13
    19
    2.00

    Kris Stadsgaard

Brought on to close up the defensive leaks but made no difference. After his introduction Madrid still managed 2 more goals. Helped in the air but didn’t prevent Madrid’s attacking ease.
