Almeria 1-1 Racing Santander: Hosts Come From Behind To Rescue A Point
Crusat's second-half goal cancelled out Colsa's first-half strike...
By Subhankar Mondal
Bottom-side Almeria had Albert Crusat to thank for salvaging a draw against Racing Santander at home in the Spanish Primera Division on Thursday evening, as his second-half goal cancelled out a first-half effort from Gonzalo Colsa.
Racing did the running in the opening exchanges with Adrian and Manuel Arana trying their luck but in vain, and then Almeria took over with Sofiane Feghouli, Pablo Piatti and Michael Jakobsen coming close to breaking the deadlock.
In the 17th minute Henrique was given his marching orders when he pulled down Piatti when he was clean through on goal.
On 25 minutes Carlos Garcia's header from a Michel cross from the centre of the Racing box went just wide and minutes later so did Kalu Uche's headed attempt.
Racing eventually went ahead on 37 minutes when Colsa's left-footed shot from close range found the top-left corner of the Almeria net.
Minutes before the half-time interval, the visitors could have netted their second of the evening when Garcia's foul on Ariel Nahuelpan saw the referee award Racing a penalty but Adrian saw his spot-kick saved by Diego Alves in the bottom left corner.
The second-half commenced with Jakobsen trying his luck from close range for Almeria, who restored parity four minutes after the hour-mark.
Jose Ortiz sent Crusat through on goal and the latter's left-footed shot from outside the box found the bottom right corner of the Racing net.
The hosts crafted a number of chances thereafter as Henok Goitom and Michel came close, and so did Giovani dos Santos for the visitors, but the game finally ended in a 1-1 draw.
