Aalesund 1-1 Motherwell
Motherwell had an uncomfortable start to their Europa League third qualifying round first leg against Aalesund of Norway, surrendering a hard earned lead with a last gasp penalty although they will still be confident of winning through to the next round.

The SPL side had a tough start to the game as Aalesund went close on a number of occasions and it looked like a sign of things to come.

And on 15 minutes Aalesund midfielder Demar Phillips hit a shot from outside of the area which came back off the crossbar.

The best chance Motherwell could muster from the opening quarter of an hour was a shot by Hately which was saved by Aalesund keeper Lindegaard.

They then had to weather a storm of Aalesund pressure as the home side threw balls into the Motherwell area from all angles.

But on 27 minutes Motherwell had two chances in the space of a minute.

First Hammell burst up the left and played a one-two with Sutton before seeing his shot tipped over and then a Hately cross to the near post was headed inches wide by Murphy.

HALF-TIME: AALESUND 0-0 MOTHERWELL

'Well came out and took the lead just after half-time as Humphrey cut back for Jamie Murphy to finish from close range.

The goal calmed nerves but the team were a bit too relaxed as Aalesund almost equalised when Olson went close as he nicked in on a poor back pass from Steven Saunders but fired his shot over.

Craigan almost turned the ball into his own net on 73 minutes but the ball just cleared the crossbar.

With 'Well minutes away from a win, Aalsund upped the pressure and eventually broke the away side down.

It was heartbreak for Saunders, as he gave away a late penalty, which was cooly slotted away by Alexander Mathisen.
