Braga 3-0 Celtic: Hoops Outclassed In Portugal
More away-day blues for Neil Lennon's side...
By Gary Niblock
Neil Lennon endured a losing start to European football as Celtic manager as his side crashed to a 3-0 away defeat to Portuguese outfit Braga.
The home side's first-half pressure told when Celtic conceded a penalty after 25 minutes when Ki Sung-Yeung was adjudged to have handballed inside of his own area. Osorio Alan stepped up and sent Lukas Zaluska the wrong way.
Braga's second goal came about as a result of some farcical defending from a Nascimento Matheus corner. Despite Zaluska's warnings, no-one manned the far post and Elderson profited by poking the ball home.
Substitute Matheus then put the icing on the cake for his side with a stunning free-kick goal from close to 40 yards out, which left the visitors deflated.
The SPL runners-up now have a real mountain to climb and even with their excellent record at Parkhead, they will struggle to salvage their hopes of making the group stage.
