Paris Saint-Germain 1–2 Girondins de Bordeaux: Michael Ciani Gives Les Girondins Last Gasp Victory

Michael Ciani gave the away side their first three points of the season with a 94th minute winner...

Ligue 1 : Michael Ciani (Bordeaux)
Girondins de Bordeaux's dismal season received a boost as they managed a last gasp victory over a fired-up Paris Saint-Germain side.

With a scrappy first ten minutes gone, PSG started to exert some dominance on the match. Nene was particularly impressive on the left side, giving Michael Ciani a torrid time, his technical skill and trickery a joy to watch as he teased the Bordeaux defence.

Frustrations from les Girondins threatened to boil over as a number of reckless challenges went in, Fernando in particular had to be dragged away by captain Alou Diarra and then coach Jean Tigana had a word in his ear.

Despite this dominance PSG failed to take advantage as their best opportunity came from Stéphane Sessegnon, who ended up unmarked at the far post as a free kick came over from the left, but his volley from the edge of the six yard box whistled just wide.

This was the warning Bordeaux needed as now they crept back into the match towards the end of the half, exploiting both flanks to great effect, but they did not have any answer to Mamadou Sakho in the PSG defence. The young centre back was a powerhouse, nothing was getting past the stopper.

Bordeaux had a combination of goalkeeper Cédric Carrasso and poor PSG finishing to thank for not going behind before the break.

Les Rouge et Bleu produced more of the same after half-time with Nene and Mevlut Erding combining well, but Carrasso again came to Bordeaux's rescue. The away side should have had a penalty but instead Wendel was given a yellow card for diving.

PSG paid for their wastefulness in front of goal as Diarra leapt high above the opposition defence to give les Girondins the lead against the run of play. But the lead never lasted long as Guillaume Hoarau tapped home from close range just minutes later.

Both teams had chances to win the match, especially the home team but they were made to pay as Ciani rose to head in substitute Gourcuff's corner to give all three point to les Girondins. The result means Bordeaux rise out of the relegation zone to 17th place, while PSG  remain in 7th.

PSG are next in action against Maccabi Tel-Aviv on Thursday 26th August in the Europa League qualifying round, while Bordeaux play reigning champions Olimpique de Marseille on Sunday 29th August in Ligue 1.
