Time for Mancini to kick-start City's season
After a comfortable victory in Austria on Thursday Manchester City will be hoping to kick-start their Premier League campaign with victory against Wigan. But the DW Stadium is not a happy hunting ground for City who have not won there in their last five visits.
City’s Premier League campaign has not got off to the start most expected as the many of their new signings take time to settle into the club. They have yet to win away from home this season and have yet to score a goal away from Eastlands. In their last away fixture against Sunderland they were surprisingly beaten 1-0 and manager Roberto Mancini will be hoping they can use the victory against Salzburg as a springboard to push themselves up towards the top of the table.
Goals from David Silva and Jo won the game for City in Austria and both will be in contention to start on Sunday, although the short amount of recovery time between the two games may prompt Mancini to rotate his squad.
The Italian will again look to talisman Carlos Tevez to inspire his side. The Argentine has scored 23 goals in his last 27 Premier League outings, including five in his last six matches against the Latics.
Latics aiming to get back to winning ways
Wigan have not won any of their last three matches against City, did get a draw at the DW Stadium last season. The Latics will take confidence from their home record against City - they have never lost a Premier League match against their local rivals in five meetings.
Moreover, Wigan have had a week to prepare for this match. They will be looking to get their first victory on home soil this season. They produced a battling performance against Sunderland last weekend, after playing for over an hour against 10 men. They created good chances throughout the game and got their reward when Antolin Alcaraz deflected Tom Cleverley’s volley into the Sunderland net with nine minutes remaining.
Summer signing Mario Boselli is still looking for his first goal for the club in the league, and manager Roberto Martinez and the fans will be hoping that he finds his scoring boots soon. Last season Boselli scored 32 goals for Estudiantes in the Argentinean league but looked low on confidence when presented with clear chances against Sunderland.
Loan signings Tom Cleverley and Franco di Santo are likely to be involved following the positive impact they made during the Sunderland game. Omani goalkeeper Ali Al Habsi is set to continue in goal in place of Chris Kirkland after impressing in the last two league matches.

The Colombian has been in impressive form for the Latics despite the side's stuttering start to the season. Against Sunderland he was a constant threat throughout the game and had his finishing been better he would have won the match for his side. With Mauro Boselli misfiring in front of goal the pressure falls onto Rodallega to provide his side's major goal threat.

The young midfielder has made an immediate impact at Eastlands which has seen him called up for the England senior squad and score two goals in his first two games. His ability to play on both wings, and use both feet, sets him apart from other youngsters, and he will cause the Wigan full-backs trouble throughout the match.
