Live Commentary

  • The treble dream lives on for die Roten! That is it from me, Tom Webber, for tonight, though. Thank you for joining me.
  • FULL TIME - Bayern 5-1 Kaiserslautern: The Bavarian giants comfortably book their place in the DFB-Pokal final where they will face Borussia Dortmund. The result never looked in doubt and Pep Guardiola's men full deserve their victory.
  • 90' + 1'
    Assist Franck Ribéry
  • 90' + 1'
    Goal Mario Götze
GOOOOOOOAAAL!! GOTZE WRAPS IT UP! A scrappy goal with a wonderful finish. The midfielder bulldozed his way into the area and although the ball got away from him, Ribery was on hand to tee him up with a brilliant backheel which he swept into the bottom corner.
  • 90' + 1'
  • 90'
Bayern counter from the corner but Ribery's final lay-off to Gotze is poor and Heintz is able to make a vital interception.
  • 89'
He is still going! Zimmer skips down the left and angles a cross into the area which Dante can only head behind for a corner.
  • 87'
Good defending from Zimmer! The wide man has worked his socks off tonight, and his impeccable work-rate comes in handy as he positions himself perfectly to intercept and clear Rafinha's cross with Mandzukic lurking.
  • 86'
Elimination from the DFB-Pokal will certainly come as a disappointment to the Red Devils. But with four games remaining in the 2. Bundesliga they currently sit five points behind Paderborn who occupy the promotion play-off spot. A return to the top-flight is still to play for.
  • 84'
OUCH! Lahm takes Idrissou's thumped clearance straight in the face. Credit to the striker, he hangs around while the Bayern captain receives treatment and apologises as he gets up to leave the field temporarily.
  • 82'
HOW HAS HE MISSED! Four minutes ago he netted a brilliant finish with his right foot, but from Gotze's floated cross Mandzukic powers a free header wide of the target. Muller lets out a rye smile and hugs his team-mate, who is still disappointed not to have added to his tally.
  • 81'
    SubstitutionDavid Alaba Rafinha
  • 80'
    SubstitutionSimon Zoller Srdjan Lakic
  • 80'
Just 10 minutes are left to play now and you would suppose that Bayern have done enough to book their spot in the DFB-Pokal final, meaning the opportunity to win an historic second successive treble remains. Some feat that would be!
  • 78'
    Assist Mario Götze
  • 78'
    Goal Mario Mandzukic
GOOOOOOOOAL! BAYERN SEAL IT! Mandzukic peels away from his marker and Gotze spots him, rolling a lovely pass into his pass. The Croatian then bears down on goal before placing a calm finish in at the far post. Sippel wasn't stopping that.
  • 77'
    SubstitutionJensen Mohamadou Idrissou
  • 77'
A final throw of the dice from Runjaic as he replaces the disappointing Jenssen with Idrissou. That means FCK will now be going with two strikers up top.
  • 75'
    SubstitutionBastian Schweinsteiger Javi Martínez
  • 75'
Gotze lays the ball off to Kroos in the middle of the Kaiserslautern pass but he tries a difficult pass towards Ribery on the left and contrives to lose possession for his side.
  • 74'
Javi Martinez looks set to enter the fray for Bayern, so perhaps Guardiola will be looking to give Kroos or Schweinsteiger a short rest.
  • 72'
A nice move from the visitors fails to materialise in anything as Zoller's touch lets him down on the edge of the box. Had he got a solid touch on that it could have set up a thrilling finale!
  • 71'
Muller launches himself into the back of Fortounis and concedes a needless free kick on the near side, 30 yards from goal. Can FCK make this count?
  • 69'
    SubstitutionChris Löwe Konstantinos Fortounis
  • 69'
Lowe appears to have picked up a knock as he chased Muller into the box moments ago and has been receiving treatment on the sidelines since. He may not be able to continue.
  • 67'
SO CLOSE FOR BAYERN! Ribery's low cross narrowly evades the sliding Muller on the edge of the six-yards box but Mandzukic picks it up at the back post. He gets his head up and drills the ball towards Gotze who attempts to find the net with an ambitious flick, but it gets deflected over the top.
  • 66'
Mandzukic lays the ball off to Muller on the right and gets up a head of steam to try and make his way into the box. Instead, Muller attempts to drill a pass all the way across the pitch for Gotze, but Torrejon intercepts.
  • 64'
So close to another opening for FCK! A quick break sees Zimmer poke a pass in behind the high defensive line, however, Zoller began his ran too early and is adjudged offside by the assistant.
  • 62'
Zimmer shows a good turn of pace as he looks to outstrip Lahm on the near side and clip the ball into the box. He somewhat mishits his cross, though, and fires it straight at the side netting instead.
  • 61'
    SubstitutionArjen Robben Mario Götze
  • 60'
    Assist Florian Dick
  • 60'
    Goal Simon Zoller
GOOOOOOOOAL!! KAISERSLAUTERN PULL ONE BACK! Dick whips an in-swinging cross in from the right and Zoller gets in front of Boateng to connect with it and glance a header in at the far post. Ladies and gentlemen, we have a game on our hands!
  • 58'
STAT: These two sides have met in the DFB-Pokal on eight previous occasions, with Kaiserslautern progressing only once in November 1980. It looks extremely unlikely they will improve upon that record tonight.
  • 56'
    Yellow Card Florian Dick
  • 56'
Dick picks up the first yellow card for a cynical challenge as Ribery looked to burst into the FCK final third on the break. The defender certainly knew what he was doing there.
  • 54'
WHAT A MISS! Robben plays a lovely through-ball to Muller which draws Sippel out of his goal. The Germany international gets his head up and manages to pick out Ribery at the back post before colliding with the onrushing keeper. Ribery brings the ball down well with his first touch but with Sippel out of his net he fails to hit the target as he blazes over the top.
  • 52'
WELL WIDE! The resultant free kick is headed behind for a corner by Dante, and the subsequent delivery drops to Zoller at the back post. The striker attempts to hit the bouncing ball first time but slices his effort comfortably off target. It's not been his night.
  • 51'
FCK look to catch Bayern offguard by almost instantly attack down the right flank. Matmour beats Dante to the ball and the Brazilian scythes him down, conceding a free kick. That was an awful challenge!
  • 50'
    Penalty Goal Thomas Müller
GOOOOOOOAAL! Muller tip-toes up to the ball confidently before sweeping the penalty into the bottom corner with Sippel diving the wrong way.
  • 50'
PENALTY TO BAYERN! Yet again Robben is the danger man as he dances into the area and draws a foul from Lowe. The referee points to the spot.
  • 48'
WHAT A CHANCE! Ring skips past a defender a spots Zimmer in space to his left. He slides a pass over to his team-mate, but who chases back to make a crucial last-ditch challenge? That's right: Robben! The Dutchman has been everywhere tonight.
  • 46'
A corner from the near side is nearly met by Schweinsteiger at the back post, but the slightest of touches from Sippel looks to have taken it just off of his head.
  • 46'
We are back underway in Munich!
  • The teams have re-emerged from the tunnel, so the second half will be underway momentarily.
  • HALF TIME - Bayern 2-0 Kaiserslautern: The Bavarians have one foot in the DFB-Pokal final thanks to goals from midfield duo Bastian Schweinsteiger and Toni Kroos. The visitors have threatened sporadically but have been unable to worry Raeder in the first half, but there is surely more goals left in this one. Be sure to join me for the second half in 15 minutes.
  • 45' + 1'
    There is the half-time whistle!
  • 45'
Bayern give the ball away in their own half cheaply and Kaiserslutern pounce. Zimmer races to the byeline and loops a cross towards the back post where two unmarked white shirts await his delivery. However, he sends it too close to Raeder who plucks it out the sky unchallenged.
  • 43'
FCK win another corner but once more the delivery is disappointing as the first defender heads it out of the danger area. The visitors would surely have hoped to make more from any such situations.
  • 41'
Kaiserslautern win a corner which they take short to Matmour. Lahm comes over to close him and the Algerian is unable to work enough space from which to cross, and ends up running the ball out for a goal kick.
  • 39'
Alaba injects some pace to the attack with a charging down the run. He lays the ball off before continuing his run into the area, but Mandzukic is unable to return possession to him with an audacious backheel.
  • 37'
Boateng loops a long ball down the touchline for Robben to chase but Sippel spots the danger and races off his line to head it out to safety. Had he lost that foot race it could have gone oh so wrong!
  • 36'
The hosts continue to monopolise possession, though it did take a rushed clearance from Dante to quash a quick attack from FCK there. Zimmer's ball almost fell for Zoller inside the box, so the visitors certainly haven't given up.
  • 34'
Well, you sense it is just a case of how many goals Bayern are going to score tonight. The Bavarians have already shown their superiority over Kaiserslautern and will be keen to get as many goals as possible to improve morale after the 3-0 defeat to Borussia Dortmund.
  • 32'
    Assist Arjen Robben
  • 32'
    Goal Toni Kroos
GOOOOOOOAL!! KROOS MAKES IT TWO! Lowe has been struggling to deal with Robben in this first half and the left-back allows the Dutchman to cut inside him far too easily. Robben gets his head up as he enters the box and places a cutback at the feet of Kroos who bends a lovely finish past Sippel at his near post.
  • 31'
STAT: Bayern have only been knocked out of the DFB-Pokal once in the last 30 home ties. That exit came in a 1-0 defeat to Schalke at the semi-final stage three years ago.
  • 29'
Mandzukic is showing his quality with his back to goal tonight. A number of passes have been drilled into the Croatian, and he is brilliant and holding onto it while shielding the opposition. Therefore, when he receives a pass over by the dugouts Torrejon has to completely wipe him out to try and win the ball and a free kick is awarded.
  • 27'
That is brilliant at the back from Bayern. Alaba, Dante, and Kroos play some neat little triangles to work the ball out of the corner with three Kaiserslautern players closing. The home fans show their appreciation with a round of applause.
  • 25'
How will the second-tier side react to this? They need to maintain concentration and not let that goal effect their gameplan, otherwise the floodgates could quickly open.
  • 23'
    Assist Arjen Robben
  • 23'
    Goal Bastian Schweinsteiger
GOOOOOOOOOAAL! BAYERN HAVE THE BREAKTHROUGH! Robben's initial dribble and attempted cross earned his side a corner which he subsequently whipped in. He picked out Schweinsteiger, who had evaded his marker Matmour, at the near post and he managed to pick out the far corner with a well-placed header.
  • 22'
The tempo of the game is starting to slow as the hosts struggle to penetrate the well-organised Kaiserslautern defence. They are being forced to move from side to side, or to send a long ball, in order to create an opening at the moment.
  • 20'
Bayern beat Kaiserslautern in the DFB-Pokal final of the 2002-03 season. Eleven years later and Claudio Pizarro, who scored in the 3-1 win, is back with the Bavarians and takes his place with the substitutes tonight. The Peruvian is the only survivor from that match in the current squad.
  • 18'
FCK cannot make the most of it, though, and the Bavarians quickly wrest back possession and look to move forward once more.
  • 17'
Torrejon hoofs a long ball down field for Matmour to chase and the Algerian obliges. He cannot beat Dante it, but he applies enough pressure to force the Brazilian centre-back to hook away the danger for a throw-in deep in the Bayern half.
  • 15'
Maybe FCK deserve a little more credit. Currently they are doing a good job of limiting the space for the Bayern midfielders in their half and are also threatening on the break. So far the coach must be pleased with how his charges have fared.
  • 13'
CHANCE! A low cross is drilled in from the left and it falls to Zoller on the penalty spot. However, with so much pace on it the striker is unable to adjust his feet and the ball slips through to the defence. He has already had a couple of chances like tonight!
  • 12'
WELL OVER THE TOP! Robben spots Muller making a run from inside out and slides a pass into him at the byeline. Muller then whips a fantastic cross into the box but Mandzukic is unable to steer it in with his first-time effort. That is a let-off for the visitors.
  • 11'
It is all Bayern now! The visitors are penned in their own half with every man back behind the ball when Guardiola's side have the ball. They cannot afford to play like this or it will only be a matter of time until the floodgates open.
  • 9'
OFF THE BAR!! Schweinsteiger dinks a lovely pass into the box and Muller races in and gets his head on it. It takes a deflection off of Dick which sends it crashing into the frame of the goal before it is cleared! It might not have been so dangerous had the Red Devils defender got a touch on it!
  • 7'
NEARLY! A long ball over the top is quickly chased by Zoller but he gets caught under it on the bounce, allowing Dante time to charge in and head it away. The referee somehow adjudged the FCK striker to have impeded the cenre-back there too, anyway.
  • 5'
WELL OVER THE TOP! After an imressive start from the visitors Bayern start to get into their passing rhythm. Boateng sends a ball up to Mandzukic who cushions it down for Muller with a header. From 25 yards out the Germany international smashes an effort at goal with his first touch, but it is wild and goes miles wide.
  • 3'
A cross from the left finds Zoller in space in the penalty area but the 22-year-old striker has to crane his head behind him to connect with it and can only arch his effort over the top. He is FCK's highest-scoring player in the league so far this season with 13 goals to his name.
  • 2'
Zimmer has been lively in the opening couple of minutes. Playing from the left for Kaiserslautern, he found plenty of space on to cut inside from a wide area but he was unable to pick out a team-mate. Now he was drawn a foul from Lahm on the half-way line to relieve some pressure on his team.
  • 1'
    We are underway in Munich!
  • We have just a few minutes left to go until kick off. As usual there is a fantastic atmosphere inside the Allianz Arena, with the home fans hoping their team can make it to the DFB-Pokal final for the 20th time in their history.
  • FCK have already knocked out two Bundesliga sides in Hertha Berlin and Bayer Leverkusen and they are currently on a seven-game unbeaten run. However, only three of those fixtures have ended in victory. If Kosta Runjaic's men can play with freedom tonight, rather than being overwhelmed by the occasion, then who knows what could happen!
  • Manuel Neuer sits out tonight as he continues to struggle with a calf injury so 20-year-old Lukas Raeder takes the Germany international's place between the sticks. Jerome Boateng comes into the defence, while Thomas Muller replaces Mario Gotze in midfield. For the visitors, Dominique Heintz, Alexander Ring and Florian Dick come into the team following the 3-2 win over St Pauli.
  • Substitutes: Mockenhaupt, Fortounis, Karl, M. Muller, Dorow, Idrissou, Lakic.
  • Kaiserslautern (4-5-1): Sippel; Dick, Orban, Torrejon, Lowe; Matmour, Heintz, Jenssen, Zimmer, Ring; Zoller.
  • Substitutes: Husic, Rafinha, Van Buyten, Martinez, Gotze, Hojbjerg, Piazrro.
  • Bayern (4-1-4-1): Raeder; Lahm, Boateng, Dante, Alaba; Schweinsteiger; Robben, T. Muller, Kroos, Ribery; Mandzukic.
  • The line-ups have been announced, so lets take a look at how the two sides are going to shape up this evening.
  • But Kaiserslautern have not celebrated victory against Bayern in Munich for over 17 years, when the Red Devils eked out a surprise 1-0 win on the opening day of the 1997-98 Bundesliga season. The 2. Bundesliga side will know that the chances of replicating that tonight are exceptionally slim, but will being such huge underdogs play into their hands?
  • The dream of winning the treble for the second successive season is still well and truly alive for Pep Guardiola's men, but they have suffered a slight stumble since jumping the first hurdle in retaining their Bundesliga title. Since clinching the title with a 3-1 win over Hertha Berlin last month, the Bavarians have mustered just one win in the following five games. That victory came against Manchester United and was enough to ensure their progression to the Champions League semi-finals.
  • Hello and welcome to tonight's LIVE play-by-play analysis as the defending champions of the DFB-Pokal, Bayern Munich, look to book their place in the final for the fourth consecutive season. However, the Bavarian's still need to get past second-tier Kaiserslautern in their semi-final this evening in order to set up a date in Berlin with Borussia Dortmund. My name is Tom Webber, and I will be guiding you through all the action.
