Player Ratings: Tottenham 3-0 Tromso

A Jermain Defoe double and a fantastic Christian Eriksen strike saw Spurs comfortably past the visitors, but Danny Rose, Mousa Dembele and Younes Kaboul all sustained injuries

    Hugo Lloris

Extremely comfortable evening for the Frenchman. Wasn't required to do anything other than sweep up and distribute.

  • Danny Rose

    Danny Rose

Looked in control down the left flank and got forward well and often. However, took a knock to his right foot in a first half challenge and asked to come off around the 35th minute.

  • Younes Kaboul

    Younes Kaboul

Made his first start since the 3-0 home win over Tbilisi and played well. Won a couple of towering headers and passed well. Guilty of missing a far post volley from a corner but Spurs were not made to pay.

  • Kyle Naughton

    Kyle Naughton

Kept things simple in behind Lamela on the right and got forward when he could. Still reluctant to press the issue and would rather play the simple ball than go at his opposite number. Steady night's work.

    Michael Dawson

Passing was a little loose but defended stoutly alongside Kaboul cutting out danger whenever it arose. Rarely troubled.

  • Lewis Holtby

Lewis Holtby Top of the Match

Operated directly behind Defoe with his familiar high energy. Saw a lot of the ball and used it well, starting the move for Defoe's opener as well as supplying the slide-rule pass for his second. Taken off on the 70th minute after an impressive display and will give Villas-Boas food for thought with his attacking options.

  • Mousa Dembélé

    Mousa Dembélé

Retained possession well in his trademark style and tackled convincingly before receiving a nasty whack to his right ankle. The Belgian was stretchered off and replaced on the 63rd minute.

  • Gylfi Sigurdsson

    Gylfi Sigurdsson

Played off the left and had a couple of chances in each half. Radar wasn't quite as precise as against Norwich where he scored twice, but found the right positions, albeit against weak opposition. Didn't always appear to be on the same wavelength as those around him.

  • Sandro

    3.00

    Sandro

Welcomed back into the first team with the familiar shouts of "beast" from the home support and stuck to his menacing reputation, harrying, pressing and tackling. Distributed the ball well too, which was a bonus.

  • Jermain Defoe

    Jermain Defoe

Scored twice in the first half after latching onto a couple of fine through balls. His first was clipped over the goalkeeper, the second slid under him. Should have had more though and was twice denied by Sahlman.

  • Erik Lamela
    38

    Erik Lamela

Primarily played on the right and immediately showed the "immense qualities" Villas-Boas highlighted earlier this week. Happy to play one-touch football and is a bundle of energy, harrying the opposition. His finest moment was a lovely first time through ball for Defoe's second goal. Get the impression there is much more to come as he adjusts to life in England.

Substitutions

  • Jan Vertonghen

    Jan Vertonghen

Entered the fray for the injured Rose and casually got about his business down the left. Happy to hare forward when he could and eluded his opponents with clever feet. Solid.

  • Paulinho

    Paulinho

Came on with 20 minutes to play for Holtby, slotting into the middle of midfield. Came close to scoring with a strike at the far post that drifted just wide.

  • Christian Eriksen
    82

    3.50

    Christian Eriksen

Replaced the injured Dembele and showed a couple of creative touches, first pinging a ball over the defence for Sandro to head at goal, and secondly bending a lovely free-kick into the six yard box, where unfortunately no-one was arriving. Added the champagne moment with a right-footed stunner into the top-left corner.

  • Marcus Sahlman

    Marcus Sahlman

Made a couple of good stops from Defoe in the first half but was beaten by a pair of clever finishes, one a chip, the other rolled beyond him. Could do nothing about Eriksen's stunner.

  • Jaroslaw Fojut

Jaroslaw Fojut Flop of the Match

Booked for a rash challenge on Lamela after taking over the captaincy. Lost Defoe for the first goal. Not a night to remember.

  • Ruben Kristiansen

    Ruben Kristiansen

Plenty of effort on the left flank and competed well enough against Lamela but was sometimes overrun when Naughton joined in.

  • Adnane Cusovic

    Adnane Cusovic

Equally difficult night as first Rose and then Vertonghen attacked him from deep. Sigurdsson's inside movement gave him plenty to think about.

    Miika Koppinen

The captain could not cut out Holtby's through ball for Defoe's second and was subbed in the 61st minute in a difficult night for defenders.

  • T. Bendiksen

    T. Bendiksen

Anchored the midfield but looked to injure himself challenging Rose in the first half. Didn't emerge for the second 45.

    Thomas Drage

Played off the left but spent most of the night doubling up on Lamela and helping his full-back. Subbed in the 78th minute.

  • Remi Johansen

    Remi Johansen

Faced the prospect of dealing with Dembele, Sandro and Holtby and was often overpowered. Still, did what he could to protect his defence and keep the score down.

    Josh Pritchard

Had a tough time up front but the Welshman on loan from Fulham managed to fire Tromso's first shot at goal in the 41st minute. Otherwise ran hard.

    Morten Moldskred

Largely anonymous on the right until a mazy dribble brightened up the visitor's evening. Though it came to nothing, Moldskred skipped past Vertonghen and Kaboul in the side's best moment.
