Player Ratings: Swansea 5-1 Petrolul Ploiesti

Michael Laudrup's men effortlessly beat the Romanian side in the Europa League with two goals from Wayne Routledge and a splendid performance from Pablo Hernandez

    Michel Vorm

Not much to do in goal as the majority of play was done in Petrolul's end, but when called upon, he did what was expected of him.

  • Neil Taylor

    Neil Taylor

He supported Routledge well in attack, filling the gap when the midfielder bombed forward.

    Chico

Forming a very good partnership with Ashley Williams, and hardly put a foot wrong.

  • Ashley Williams

    Ashley Williams

Whenever he got the ball, he made sure it straight back into the opposition half, showing a good range of short and long passing. At one point, on the counter, he was Swansea's furthest forward player. He has a great engine.

  • Ángel Rangel

    Ángel Rangel

He did for Hernandez what Taylor did for Routledge. Great support down the right-hand side, and filled the gap behind him when the Spaniard was tearing up Petrolul's left-back.

  • Leon Britton

    Leon Britton

Probably Swansea's quietest outfield player as he patiently sat in front of the defence, breaking up play. He did not have much to do.

  • Jonjo Shelvey

    3.00

    Jonjo Shelvey

Coming into his own in the Swansea midfield, with a vast range of passes and crosses. He was involved in the first two goals - dangerous low balls into the box - and is proving to be a hit.

  • Michu

    3.00

    Michu

His link up play with Wilfried Bony, Hernandez and Routledge proved to be crucial, and got his reward with a tap-in for the second goal of the evening.

  • Wayne Routledge

    Wayne Routledge

The midfielder scored two and should have had a hat-trick by half-time, but spurned a great opportunity in a one-on-one situation. His first goal took a deflection on the way through, his second was a rare headed finish.

  • Pablo Hernández

    Pablo Hernández

Only a sublime display from a player would have beaten Routledge to top dog, and that is what we got from the Spaniard. He was a ball of energy. Petrolul's left-back will still be having nightmares up until the second leg. He forced a save which led to the second, before crossing to Routledge for the third. Only thing missing was a goal.

  • Wilfried Bony
    31

    Wilfried Bony

Linked play up well and had a chance to make it four for the evening, but his shot lacked the curl it desperately needed following a Hernandez cross. His presence and determination was enough to get the ball over the line for the fourth.

Substitutions

  • Jordi Amat

    Jordi Amat

Replaced Williams when Swansea were 5-0. He came on to give the captain some rest ahead of the weekend.

  • Jonathan De Guzmán

    Jonathan De Guzmán

He came on to replace Shelvey who had started to give the ball away. Steadied the ship in midfield.

  • Pozuelo

    3
    3.00

    Pozuelo

Looked lively when he came off the bench, and got his reward with a well taken goal from inside the area. He played the Michu role with ease.

  • Peçanha
    2
    5
    2.50

    Peçanha

He was unlucky to see his saved effort from Hernandez only go as far as Michu, and then he was unfortunate to knock the ball off his own arm and into the goal for the fourth of the evening.

  • Geraldo Alves

    Geraldo Alves

He was booked for a foul on the tireless Hernandez who had previously rung rings around him all night.

  • Alexandru Constantin Benga

    2.00

    Alexandru Constantin Benga

The defender had Michu and Bony to put up with, and when he thought that could not get any worse, he then had to face Pozuelo.

  • Sitya

    Sitya

Guilerme suffered exactly the same fate as Benga. It was not pretty to watch the two defenders struggle against them.

  • Sebastian Achim

    3
    3.00

    Sebastian Achim

Coped well with the demands of the game and got forward as much as he could do. He had a few shots and attempted as many crosses as he could.

  • Damien Boudjemaa

    1.50

    Damien Boudjemaa

He was subbed early in the second half as his manager went for broke. He was right to come off as he failed to do much.

  • Ovidiu Ştefan Hoban

    Ovidiu Ştefan Hoban

Stuck an unfortunate toe out and diverted the ball past his own goalkeeper for Routledge's first goal. He was subbed off at half-time.

  • Filipe Teixeira

    Filipe Teixeira

He was Petrolul's free kick taker, but whenever they had a rare set-piece, he failed to deliver.

  • Sony Mustivar

    3
    1.50

    Sony Mustivar

A challenge on Williams in the first-half drew a nasty reaction from the Swansea captain. Did not do much else.

  • Gheorghe Grozav
    11
    1
    3.50

    Gheorghe Grozav

Showed real intent and was Petrolul's only threat in the first-half. He got forward as much as he could, and went close to scoring with a number of long range efforts. Scored the goal of the night with a fantastic overhead kick.

  • Hamza Younes
    3
    3
    1.50

    Hamza Younes

The manager could not bring him off any sooner. Failed to live up to the task and was quietly put in his place by Williams and Chicho.

Substitutions

  • N. Priso
    1
    2
    2.50

    N. Priso

He replaced Boudjemaa and performed much better. Put himself about a bit more, and did well.

  • Camará
    2
    1
    3.00

    Camará

In the first ten minutes of coming on at half-time, he had a shot and put himself about more than the majority of the Petrolul players. It would not surprise to see him start in the second leg.

  • Férébory Dore
    1
    2
    2.50

    Férébory Dore

He came on to replace Younes and again, did better then the person he had come on for. The big man did a good job, and will probably get the nod for a start.
