Steven Gerrard provides the overlap for Stewart Downing on the right but the England captain can't find Sturridge with his cross.

Neil Lennon makes another change as Isaguirre is replaced by Stuart Findlay.
Apart from a momentary lapse in concentration which lead to Balde's goal, Downing has had an impressive game. Meanwhile, Kolo Toure once again causes problems from a corner but fails to connect with the delivery.
More resolute defending from Celtic as Isaguirre throws his body in front of Downing's shot. Still half an hour to go with Liverpool searching for a deserved equaliser.

Liverpool on top now. Sturridge elects to shoot from the tightest of angles before the momentum is taken away.
Goal disallowed! Liverpool thought they had equalised from a Steven Gerrard free-kick which Kolo Toure nods past Forster in goal but the referee intervenes.
Anthony Stokes tries his luck from 25 yards out but his effort is comfortably collected by Mignolet.
Terrific wing play by Downing on the right. The England international pulls the ball back for Coutinho but the Brazilian misses the ball. Terrible.
Jose Enrique hits a poor cross from the left side after nice play from Sturridge.
Daniel Sturridge nearly makes an instant impact as his curling left-footed effort just flies past Fraser Forster's left post.

And that's half-time. It's been a thoroughly enjoyable forty-five minutes here in Dublin with Liverpool dominating the majority of possession. However, they've been unable to take their chances and been made to pay by Celtic and Amido Balde in particular.
Liverpool are finishing the half strongly as one minute is added on.
Anthony Stokes receives the first booking of the game for a slightly over the top challenge on Lucas. It may have been a bit harsh considering the friendly nature of the match but was deemed dangerous by referee Alan Kelly.
Every time Steven Gerrard gets on the ball, a huge roar goes up around the stadium but the Liverpool captain has been quiet so far. However, a trademark effort from just outside the box is well blocked again by a hooped jersey.
The tempo of the game has just come down a notch as we approach the break. Liverpool will wonder how they still trail but in truth, haven't been able to take their opportunities as Johnson's shot goes high and wide.
Celtic have hardly threatened Mignolet's goal in this first-half but a free-kick from the right sparks panic in the Liverpool defence but eventually they scramble it clear.
Lukasz Zaluska is enjoying his opportunity between the sticks here this afternoon as he makes another fine stop, this time from Aspas after Coutinho's delicate through-ball, however the striker was flagged offside.
The Premier League side continue to enjoy large spells of possession but have struggled to break down a shaky looking Celtic rear-guard in the last fifteen minutes or so.
Iago Aspas picks out captain Steven Gerrard but the midfielder skies his effort under pressure from Mouyokolo.
Coutinho after a dazzling piece of skill to lose three Celtic markers, then proceeds at failing to master a five-yard pass to Downing.

Celtic looking comfortable in possession. However, you get the feeling that Liverpool are likely to equalise with every break forward.
This Celtic defence is being torn open by some lovely movement and passing by Brendan Rodgers' side but once again Zaluska comes to the rescue, this time denying Glen Johnson from a tight angle.
Incredible tempo to this game as Philipe Coutinho tries his luck from range but it was always going wide.
Liverpool starting to turn the screw now as Gerrard's corner is headed over his own crossbar by Anthony Stokes.
Downing seems determined to make up for his mistake as he cuts in from the right before unleashes a fierce effort on goal but Zaluska is equal to it and produces a fine stop.
This game is end-to-end now as Liverpool look for an instant equaliser but again a fine tackle from Lustig thwarts the danger.
Almost an immediate response from Liverpool as Allen's surging run down the left creates the opening for Downing but his effort from a couple of yards is blocked by Lustig.

GOAL! Amido Balde puts Celtic 1-0 out of nothing. Stewart Downing's aimless pass is latched onto by the striker before he turns inside Wisdom and slots under the legs of the advancing Simon Mignolet.
Celtic have yet to have any meaningful spell of possession so far. Iago Aspas threatens for Liverpool but Mouyokolo blunts his attempts.
Joe Allen of all people looks to create an opening for Liverpool. The midfielder plays a one-two with Iago Aspas but the return ball is poor by the Spaniard.
Coutinho makes Mouyokolo look foolish just past the half-way as he sends the ball through the French man's legs. Lovely stuff.
Both teams look to have settled after a thunderous start. Such is the atmosphere in the stadium this won't be a dull affair.

With just ten minutes until kick-off in Dublin, the atmosphere is building as the Fields of Athenry blasts around all four corners of Lansdowne Road. Meanwhile, Daniel Sturridge is included on the Liverpool bench alongside Jordan Henderson and Raheem Sterling among others.
