Player Ratings: Israel U21s 1-0 England U21s

The Young Lions end their miserable European Championship campaign with a third loss, thanks to Ofir Krieff's long range strike, leaving them bottom of Group A without a point

Made a fine double save to deny both Ince and Zaha in a matter of moments to keep Israel level going in at the break. Didn't have anything to do in the second half as England struggled to create.

Made a couple of strong, incisive challenges against Clyne and Ince, keeping England quiet as an attacking threat down his flank. His work was neat, tidy and very effective. A fine performance.

  • Ben Vahaba

    Ben Vahaba

Did a fine job against Wickham, blocking numerous shots from the Sunderland striker, while also making a number of aerial clearances throughout the game.

    Ofer Yom Tov Verta

Defending impressively against both Ince and Zaha as they took turns running at him. He wasn't overawed by their trickery and supported Sallalich in attack when he could, even getting off a couple of decent strikes at goal.

    Omri Ben Harush

Had a solid game alongside Vahaba in the centre of defence as England struggled to create through the middle of the field. Weathered a late storm with assurance.

    Israel Zaguri

His pace and trickery at times proved too much for Clyne, whom he got the better of on a couple of occasions. He looked dangerous every time he had a chance to run at England.

  • Sintayehu Sallalich

    Sintayehu Sallalich

Looked Israel's most potent threat in the first half as he exposed the space left by Rose's tendacy to fly forward. Hit a couple of good crosses into the box without much success. Continued his good work after the break but found space less frequently.

  • Ofir Krieff

    Ofir Krieff

Very strong in the tackle in midfield as he protected his back four. Even showed a good eye for forward pass from deep positions. His performance was rewarded with a late goal.

The captain carried the ball impressively for the hosts, linking defence and attack well. He always tried to play little triangles with him team-mates. Smacked the crossbar with a cannonball of a shot from range.

  • Munas Dabbur

    Munas Dabbur

Deployed as the furthest of the midfield five, his job was to provide support for Israel's lone forward. Despite getting into good positions, his decision-making in the final third was poor.

  • Alon Turgeman

    Alon Turgeman

To his credit his movement off the ball was smart and he remained persistant with it, but he found himself isolated for large periods of the game and struggled to make an impact.

    Orr Barouch

Came on for the tired Turgeman and stayed busy, harassing any England player in possession all over the pitch. Never got a chance himself though.

  • Jason Steele

    Jason Steele

Had a quiet time as Israel rarely managed to conjure up dangerous attacks. His kicking, though, left a lot to be desired. Was almost beaten from a ridiculous distance after a poor clearance. Had little chance keeping out Kreiff's winner.

  • Nathaniel Clyne

    Nathaniel Clyne

Had a tough time against the dangerous Zaguri who gave him plenty of problems on his flank. Combined well at times going forward but didn't have any of the impact Rose did on the opposite flank.

  • Andre Wisdom

    Andre Wisdom

Impressive showing from the Liverpool defender in the centre of defence. He showed good strength and leadership marshalling the back four and charged up the pitch to get involved with attacks when England needed momentum. The late goal was no fault of his own.

  • Tom Lees

    Tom Lees

Came into the centre of defence with minimum fuss. He didn't have too much to deal with as Israel played with one up top, but he put out little fires throughout the game with a calming assurance. Can't be blamed for Israel's winner.

  • Nathaniel Chalobah
    18

    3.00

    Nathaniel Chalobah

Spent plenty of time on the ball probing and looking for a forward pass. His physicality in the middle of the park helped England retrieve the ball on multiple occasions. Came off with fatigue late on.

  • Danny Rose

    Danny Rose

He got forward at every invitation, overlapping both Zaha and Ince and often delivering good quality into the box. On the downside, he left plenty of gaping holes in behind for Israel to expose, which they did. Should have closed down Krieff, who scored the winner.

  • Josh McEachran

    2.00

    Josh McEachran

Kept it short, sharp and simple in the middle of the park, keeping England ticking through midfield. A solid, reliable if unspectacular performance from the central midfielder.

  • Jonjo Shelvey

    Jonjo Shelvey

One England's better performers, he burst out of the midfield three and joined the attack with good effect. He played a couple of simple passes which cut Israel open. His level dropped considerably late on though, unfortunately.

  • Wilfried Zaha
    13
    21

    Wilfried Zaha

A frustrating performance from the winger. He ran and ran at Isreal's full-backs but more often than not was guilty of overplaying and losing possession. Not the same player who forged a reputation coming into this tournament.

  • Thomas Ince

    15
    1.50

    Thomas Ince

Had a very quiet first half before coming close to opening the scoring. He drifted around in search of the ball but lacked conviction when a couple of chances eventually came his way. Was replaced at the break.

  • Connor Wickham

Connor Wickham Flop of the Match

Needs to do more than just take a touch and have a shot when presented with the ball. He held it up well at times but the Sunderland man needs to add more to his game.

    Jordan Henderson

Came on at half time for the ineffectual Ince and slotted into the midfield allowing Shelvey to work closer to Wickham. Spent much of his time chasing as England failed to maintain possession.

  • Marvin Sordell

    12

    Marvin Sordell

Came on to support Wickham with a quarter of the game to go but failed to get into proceedings as Israel found a winner moments after his introduction.
