4/28/10 FULL TIME

Barcelona 1-3 Inter (2-3 agg.)

Inter have qualified for the Champions League final
4/28/10 Goal disallowed! Bojan found the back of the net with a slick effort but it's been disallowed for an apparent handball by Yaya Toure in the buildup. A very close decision!
4/28/10 GOAL ALERT

Barcelona 1-0
Inter (Pique 84')

"GOOOOOOOOALLLLLLLLL!!!!!!!!!! GERARD PIQUE!!!!!!!!!! GAME ON HERE!!!! A wonderful pass from Xavi finds the defender in the area, and he produced a wonderful pirouette to round Julio Cesar and blast the ball home!! What a finish we have here!!!"
4/28/10 Glorious chance for Barcelona. Bojan at the back post six yards out and he heads wide. How did he miss?
4/28/10 Last throw of the dice from Barcelona. Guardiola has sent defender Pique forward to play as a centre attacker.
4/28/10 13 minutes to go. Barca keep coming forward, but they just cannot create a single chance at the moment.
4/28/10 It looks like the curse of Champions League winners is to continue. Not since 1990 and Milan have a team won the formerly named European Cup twice in succession.
4/28/10 Lucio and Keita have collided in the Inter area, but both get to their feet. More time runs down.
4/28/10 Time is running out for Barcelona. It is all far too predictable, Inter are defending comfortably.
4/28/10 Inter substitution

Muntari in, Sneijder out (66')
4/28/10 Barcelona substitution

Jeffren Suarez on, Busquets off (63')
4/28/10 Barcelona substitution:

Bojan Krkic on, Ibrahimovic off (62')
4/28/10 Lionel Messi was able to finally run into the box there off a backheel from Zlatan Ibrahimovic, but Ludio is there toswat the ball away. Leo goes down looking for a penalty - nothing doing - under Cristian Chivu's challenge.
4/28/10 As with any side hoping to beat Barcelona the connection between midfield and defence is forefront in Inter's minds. Right now the two lines are playing very close together, and denying Barcelona space where they need it.
4/28/10 At half time Gabi Milito was removed for Maxwell in order to offer Barcelona more width.
4/28/10 And we're back for the second period!
4/28/10 Inter have been reduced to ten men on six occasions this season. Only once have they gone on to lose. And tonight, they need to lose by two clear goals.
4/28/10 That's the interval, and Barcelona still need two goals to progress. Ten-man Inter are seeing very, very little of the ball right now but they have only been threatened a couple of times. Right now all eyes are on referee Franck de Bleeckere and his decision to send off Thiago Motta...
4/28/10 HALF TIME

Barcelona 0-0 Inter (1-3 agg.)
4/28/10 Incidentally Inter are looking a bit like a 3-5-1 side right now, with Eto'o on the left of midfield ahead of the central line, and Chivu now up on the right there where Thiago Motta was. Yet they keep Barcelona at bay! Samuel Eto'o, left wing-back: who would have say that coming in 2007.
4/28/10 And there's another booking, this time for Chivu, for coming in from behind on Messi. It was a tought decision for the ref, and for me, not the correct one - he was enough at the side, and got enough of the ball.
4/28/10 Barcelona are playing plenty of balls in from out wide but with a lack of accuracy, and Inter are reaping the benefits. Although, Julio Cesar has been booked, apparently for time-wasting.
4/28/10 The in-play odds at Titanbet have been updated in the aftermath of that red card. These apply to victory over the 90 minutes. (Odds correct as of publication time - they can change at any time.)

Barcelona: 1.21
Draw: 5.00
Inter: 12.00
4/28/10 A straight red for former Barcelona player Thiago Motta! He'd already been booked but he's walking with a straight red. While running with the ball he stuck his arm out and struck Sergi Busquets on the chin behind him. Busquets went down clutching his face, and Motta walked. It was not a violent challenge from Motta but he did raise his arm to an opponent above the neck, and thus he can't complain.

But complain he did! When walking off the pitch Motta grabbed Sergi by the neck, accusing him of play-acting (prompting more writhing of pain from the Barcelona midfielder.) What a production...
4/28/10 RED CARD ALERT

Inter: Thiago Motta (27')
4/28/10 The scenes outside just before kick-off:

4/28/10 Our man at Camp Nou, Sergio Stanco, is very much impressed by the atmopshere. He says that before kick-off the announcer tried to read out the Inter team, but was completely and utterly engulfed by whistles and boos!

Barcelona are still seeing plenty of the ball but struggling to test the 'keeper. One thing's for sure: this is typical Barcelona. Lots of possession and a tendency to run the ball into the net. Lovely to watch.
4/28/10 Goal.com International's Adam Scime explains that Cristian Chivu is playing out wide:

"So far Chivu is playing in a midfield three behind Sneijder, with Cambiasso and Thiago Motta, out on the left. Zanetti remains left-back."
4/28/10 Barcelona are seeing all of the ball and all of the (half-) chances, while Inter are working to close downplayers in the final third. They are not, however, looking especially active on the break yet. They know they don't need to score, so only Diego Milito, without backup, is chasing clearances. Perhaps if Barcelona can test Julio Cesar Inter may opt to play with more alacrity on the counter: for now, it's safety first for the visitors.
4/28/10 We're expecting the first photographs from the game very shortly. In the meantime, Thiago Motta has been booked and Lionel Messi has barged Maicon into some advertising hoardings. There's a real edge about tonight's game. More on the tactics shortly.
4/28/10 Barcelona have definitely been superior so far, but with no real testing of Julio Cesar to show for their efforts. It does seem, meanwhile, like that 4-3-3 with Milito on the left side of defence that we talked about.
4/28/10 Some good early play from Barcelona there, and Pedro cuts inside with ease past Maicon and flashed a shot wide.
4/28/10 And we're off for the first half!
