Thomas Tuchel drops bombshell as Bayern Munich boss confirms he'll leave at end of season despite Harry Kane pushing for German to stay

The former Chelsea and Paris Saint-Germain boss <a href="https://www.goal.com/en-gb/lists/thomas-tuchel-to-leave-bayern-munich-bundesliga-part-ways-german-coach-in-summer-xabi-alonso-jurgen-klopp/blt430d3ab11a804d03" target="_blank">revealed back in February that he intended to walk away from a prominent post in German football</a>. With Bayern surrendering the Bundesliga title to Bayer Leverkusen, while also suffering Champions League semi-final heartache against Real Madrid, they will be <a href="https://www.goal.com/en-gb/lists/everyone-laughing-england-harry-kane-selfish-robert-lewandowski-record-bayern-munich-trophy-bid/blt802d3f428a3edcce" target="_blank">ending the 2023-24 campaign empty-handed</a>.

WHAT HAPPENED?

Talks have been held regarding a managerial U-turn from Tuchel, with <a href="https://www.goal.com/en-gb/lists/bayern-munich-search-new-coach-man-utd-ralf-rangnick-latest-reject-thomas-tuchel/blt630d0a55e26916eb" target="_blank">Bayern struggling to line up a successor</a>, but he has now reconfirmed his departure. Tuchel has said ahead of a season finale at Hoffenheim on Saturday: “This is my last press conference at Sabener Strasse. There were talks, but we didn't reach an agreement, so the decision of February still stands.”

WHAT TUCHEL SAID

Senior figures inside the Bayern camp – including England international striker Kane and World Cup winners Thomas Muller and Manuel Neuer – are <a href="https://www.goal.com/en-gb/lists/thomas-tuchel-stay-harry-kane-manuel-neuer-thomas-muller-departure/bltde497e00e3fc160c" target="_blank">said to have urged Tuchel to remain in his current post</a>. Those words have fallen on deaf ears, with the 50-year-old preparing to move on after his 61st game at the helm.
