Wilshere hints at January departure from Arsenal

Jack Wilshere has hinted that he could leave Arsenal during the January transfer window.

The 25-year-old is set to become a free agent next summer and no fresh terms have been agreed as yet as he finds himself in a similar position to team-mates Mesut Ozil and Alexis Sanchez.

Wilshere has struggled for regular game time this season and, with World Cup ambitions with England to take into consideration, admits that he is to hold talks with Arsene Wenger before deciding whether to stay put or move elsewhere in the New Year.

“I’ve said before that I want to stay here and play,” the midfielder told reporters.

“I’ve been at this club for 10 years. I don’t have to say how much this club means to me, how good they have been to me.

“But, at the same time, the boss has got to be honest with me and I’m sure he will.

“I think we will have to talk about that [leaving in January] when it comes down to it.

“We have got a month until then, and me and the boss will probably have a conversation before then and see what happens because obviously when January comes I have only got six months left on my contract.

“We have known each other for long enough and we have a good relationship where we can be honest with each other so I’m sure we will be and then we will go from there.”

Wilshere is a product of Arsenal’s academy system, making his debut in September 2008 and has gone on to make 165 appearances for the club.

Injuries have proved to be an issue, though, throughout his career and he was allowed to link up with Bournemouth on loan in 2016-17.

That spell was ended by a broken leg and Wenger has handed him just six outings this season.
