Goal spoke to the veteran goalkeeper, who recently signed a new one-year deal with the Citizens

Cape Town City goalkeeper Shu-aib Walters is happy to have signed a contract extension.

“I’m not disappointed (with the deal) because it’s not like I will be retiring after the one-year extension. I will probably play for one more season because that’s how contracts for players my age are structured,” Walters told Goal.

The 35-year-old admits that next season could be his last campaign at the club given the type of contract he has been given.

“You will play one year and then the club decides whether they are going to keep you or let you move to another club," he said.

“I’m happy with the one-year contract and I will look to continue playing for as long as I can or I’m still passionate,” he explained.

With coach Eric Tinkler departing for SuperSport United, the former Bloemfontein Celtic and Maritzburg United goalkeeper says they can continue from where they left off without their former mentor.

“Yes, definitely. I think the team has something good about it. I think we just need to keep our star players motivated to have another excellent season," he stressed.

“The problem is once you have had such a good season, the players can perform well for one season and they cannot keep it up the following season.

“I think if we can get Lebogang Manyama and Aubrey Ngoma to give us an even better season, then maybe the change in the technical team won’t be such a problem,” Walters concluded.

Benedict McCarthy was appointed City head coach on Tuesday.
