'Unsettled' Orlando Pirates full-back Matlaba linked with Sundowns and SuperSport United

Orlando Pirates full-back Thabo Matlaba has reportedly attracted interest from PSL sides Mamelodi Sundowns and SuperSport United.

It has been reported that the 29-year-old defender is unsettled at the Houghton-based side, who have a new coach in Swedish tactician Kjell Jonevret.

Matlaba, who remains part of the Bafana Bafana squad, is said to be open to leaving Bucs having joined the club in January, 2012 from Free State Stars.

Pirates' Gauteng rivals SuperSport and Sundowns are believed to be monitoring the two-footed player's situation at the Soweto giants.

"Sundowns and SuperSport are very much keen to sign Matlaba, but they know that he has a contract with Pirates," The Citizen source said.

"So they’re waiting for him to come out and say he wants to leave before entering any negotiations with Pirates," the source concluded.

Matlaba, who has played 15 PSL games this season, was heavily linked with a move to Sundowns in 2014 and he was also said to be unhappy at Bucs at the time.

However, the Buccaneers moved swiftly to offer him a five-year contract which the versatile player signed and continued turning out for the team.

SuperSport coach Stuart Baxter is believed to be a huge fan of Matlaba, who made a substitute appearance during the 1-1 draw with Matsatsantsa in midweek.
