Super Cup 2018: Subhash Bhowmick ready to stay in a room full of snakes but not with Khalid Jamil

After finishing fourth in the I-League, Subhash Bhowmick was roped in as the technical director by East Bengal to better their performance in the Super Cup. However, things haven't gone as per the plan with Bhowmick and Jamil being at loggerheads.

Bhowmick blasted his colleague and alleged that Jamil refused to answer his phone calls and was absent from the training sessions soon after he was appointed as the Technical Director.

"I tried getting in touch with Khalid but he hasn't answered my calls. Who does he think he is? Khalid Jamil is not Pep Guardiola or Jose Mourinho or Sir Alex Ferguson. I don’t know why he is not coming to practice. East Bengal won’t stop functioning if Khalid doesn’t turn up," raged Bhowmick a month back.

But when Khalid was asked about Bhowmick’s comments, he replied non-chalantly, “I don’t really care what others say. My job is to come and help East Bengal. I didn’t feel bad. He is senior to me and he has the right to say whatever he wants. He is a good coach, he has achieved so much. He is like an elder brother, an uncle to me (Mera bada bhai, mera chacha jaisa hai) My work is to help the club.”

Even though, the former Mumbai FC coach tried to play down the issues between them, tension continued to brew. Few days later, Bhowmick also joined the chorus and acknowledged Jamil as his 'son'.

All hell broke loose after East Bengal suffered a 4-1 thrashing at the hands of Bengaluru FC in the final of the Super Cup. Sitting in the hotel lobby after the match, the ASEAN Cup-winning coach once again fired shots at Jamil.

"I won't work with Khalid any more. If he stays I'll leave. I can stay in a room full of snakes but not with Khalid Jamil," blasted Bhowmick.

The maverick coach from Kolkata has been coaching for more than two decades and has worked with several acclaimed tacticians in his managerial career. He mentioned that Jamil isn't the easiest person to deal with.

"I have worked with many AFC A license and AFC Pro license coaches. Mariano Dias, Alfred Fernandes are some of them. I never had problems. This is the first time I am complaining. Jamil is no coach. He never has any plans. I knew Miku would come down and create chances from midfield. But I wasn't allowed to attend the pre-match team meeting," alleged  Bhowmick.

The former Mohun Bagan coach was also furious with how Jamil dealt with former East Bengal players like Manoranjan Bhattacharya and Bhashkar Ganguly.

"I must admit that he has now successfully thrown out three former East Bengal greats like Manoranjan, Bhashkar Ganguly and now Subhash Bhowmick. Hats off," signed off Bhowmick sarcastically.
