Mamelodi Sundowns midfielder Themba Zwane says he is humbled to hear people comparing him to Bafana Bafana legend Doctor Khumalo.
Although he acknowledged the comparison, the skilful midfielder said he still has a long way to go before reaching the levels of the man also known as '16V''.
“I am delighted to hear people comparing me to Doctor, but for me I have not reached that level as yet. I still have to work very hard so that I can grow,” Zwane told reporters as quoted by Isolezwe.
Zwane previously worked with former Bafana coach Clive Barker at Mpumalanga Black Aces between 2013 and 2014, and because of his silky skills, 'The Dog' said Zwane reminds him of the ex-Amakhosi dribbling wizard.
“I hope one day I will be able to reach that level,” said Zwane.
With Zwane having been one of the most important figures in the national team, he was ruled out of the 2019 Caf African Cup of Nations qualifier against Libya last month.
The former Black Aces attacker sustained a toe injury during their MTN8 Cup semi-final clash against Cape Town City which also cost him a place in Bafana's back-to-back matches against Seychelles.
Speaking about his injury setback, the Tembisa-born player said he is feeling good and vowed he will be back to his best.
“The injury has derailed my Bafana ambitions, but I am back now and I feel strong and ready to compete,” he continued.
Moreover, Sundowns is the only team in the Premier Soccer League (PSL) that is yet to lose a match, but they are yet to find their consistency which made them title contenders in the past few seasons.
Pitso Mosimane's men have played seven PSL matches and have two wins, five draws and no loss so far, and Zwane admits that they have struggled.
“It is true that we did not start the season on a high note, but we are used to that because we know we will get things right and that is a fact because we are winning titles,” he concluded.
