Steve Komphela: Kaizer Chiefs are going to Polokwane to win

Kaizer Chiefs coach Steve Komphela strongly believes that they will return from Polokwane with all the maximum points on Sunday afternoon.

Amakhosi visit Baroka FC on the back of a four-match unbeaten run, and the 50-year-old mentor is looking to keep that record intact. 

“We are going to Polokwane to win. We want to continue with our unbeaten run,” Komphela told the Amakhosi website. 

The Naturena-based club has previously struggled against Baroka, but Komphela says they have done their homework this time around. 

“We’ve done our homework. There are many variables in any league match this season – one never knows what to expect. Look at Baroka, they lost to Orlando Pirates a fortnight ago and then recovered to beat AmaZulu. So, we had to process all that during our preparation,” he said.

Amakhosi lost 2-1 to Baroka in the first half of the campaign, but Komphela has already moved on from the defeat, saying that a lot has happened since then. 

“That’s water under the bridge. It is history, and that’s where that result belongs. Much has happened since then,” continued Komphela. 

George Maluleka and Siyabonga Ngezana are in contention for the encounter having successfully served their one-match ban in the team's previous game against Polokwane City. 

Asked if this will give him a selection headache, Komphela said: “Not at all, and if so, it will be a beautiful nightmare to have. It is always a pleasure to have options when approaching a match. We welcome both Mido and Siya back in the squad. Let’s see what happens when we finalise the team. It’s a healthy situation. We will field a side and a system with the aim of getting the three points.”
