The midfielder’s inactivity at club level saw him lose his place in the recent Bafana Bafana squad, but now he's back

South Africa midfielder Ayanda Patosi returned to Sporting Lokeren’s lineup for the first time since October 2016 as he played the whole game in the scoreless draw again Sporting Charleroi in the Belgian First Division A on Sunday.

The 24-year-old last featured for Lokeren in the 2-2 draw against AS Eupen last year and has been missing in action after being frozen out of the first team picture for failing to arrive back on time from national team duty with Bafana Bafana in November.

The player cited problems with his visa after playing for his country in their 1-1 draw against Mozambique in Maputo as a reason for his delay, but this did not go down well with his coach Runar Kristinsson who reportedly instructed him to work on his own.

However, after clearing the air with his coach in January, the Cape Town-born attacker returned to the Tricolores’ matchday squad and watched from the bench in another goalless stalemate against KV Oostende last weekend.

He has also been withdrawn from the Bafana squad that was announced last week for friendlies against Guinea-Bissau and Angola later this month.

Patosi is expected to leave Lokeren after six seasons for greener pastures when his current deal expires at the end of the season.

The player has suggested on numerous occasions that he was ready to take a step up to a bigger club, although it remains to be seen if indeed he will depart.
