Orlando Pirates defender Ayanda Gcaba joins Platinum Stars on loan

Orlando Pirates defender Ayanda Gcaba has joined Platinum Stars on loan for the remainder of the campaign, the Soweto giants confirmed.

Reports emerged earlier this year that Gcaba had handed in a transfer request to the Pirates management following his lack of game time under Micho Sredojevic.

In fact, he never featured for the Buccaneers this season despite Sredojevic's rotation policy.

The arrival of Diamond Thopola from Chippa United also dented any hopes of Gcaba breaking into the starting line-up at Pirates.

Gcaba, who joined Bucs from Free State Stars in 2012, was a regular prior to the appointment of Sredojevic as head coach.

He will now link up with former coach Roger de Sa at Dikwena for the next six months.

The next months will definitely be crucial if Gcaba wants to remain at the Rustenburg-based club beyond June 2018.

He is in the final six months of his contract with Pirates, and as things stand, it appears highly unlikely that Gcaba will return to the Sea Robbers for the upcoming campaign.

Gcaba leaves the Soweto giants having played 117 official matches with seven goals and a single assist to his name.

He will be expected to hit the ground running and use his experience to help Dikwena move off the bottom of the table in the next 11 league games.

Gcaba was part of De Sa's team that reached the 2013 Caf Champions League final, while he also played a role in ensuring that Pirates secure a place in the final of the Caf Confederation Cup in 2015.
