Two second half strikes from Mbwana Samatta and Shiza Kichuya proved enough for hosts Tanzania to beat DR Congo 2-0 in a friendly match played in Dar es Salaam.
Ahead of the game it had been reported that four DR Congo players had walked out as protest to poor organization around the friendly international match.
West Ham United’s Arthur Masuaku, Paul-Jose Mpoku of Belgian club Standard Liege, Jordan Ikoko from En Avant Guingamp and Gael Kakuta of Ligue 1 outfit Amiens left the camp on Monday due to repeated logistical and organizational problems as the team prepared to face Tanzania.
The game started slowly with both teams trying to find chances to score although neither made the most of their chances and went on break tied 0-0.
DR Congo returned in the second half with more power and purpose about their play, trying to create some clear chances to get the lead but the Tanzanian defenders stayed strong and neutralized the challenges.
In the final twenty minutes Tanzania became more ruthless and started to push for a goal which arrived in the 80th minute after skipper Samatta headed in a cross from Shiza Kichuya.
Six minutes later, KRC Genk’s Samatta turned provider for Kichuya whose 20 yards shot found the back of the net to make it 2-0 for the home side.
Middleborough’s Assombalonga Britt who came in the second half had two clear chances for the visitors but both his efforts were cleared off the line, first by Abdi Banda and later by Gadiel Michael.
This was a much improved performance from Tanzania following their 4-1 defeat in Algeria last week.
