Mamelodi Sundowns and Bidvest Wits both interested in Cape Town City star Lyle Lakay

Cape Town City star Lyle Lakay may soon be donning the colours of another club with interest in his services gaining momentum.

Lakay joined the Citizens before the start of the 2017/18 Premier Soccer League (PSL) campaign, where he starred for the Mother City-based outfit.  Lakay made 28 league appearances and found the back of the net on two occasions.

This has subsequently led to much fanfare surrounding the exciting winger, with recent reports suggesting that Mamelodi Sundowns were closing in on his services.

Lakay is certainly no stranger to life in Gauteng having previously turned out for Sundowns’ rivals SuperSport United, before moving on to Bloemfontein Celtic.

However, it appears that the Brazilians might not have it all their own way.

City boss John Comitis, in an interview with TimesLive recently revealed that that both Sundowns and Bidvest Wits had expressed interest in the 26-year-old.

“There has been contact from both those teams and for us now it is about sitting down and thinking about the way forward because Lakay is a very important player for us‚” Comitis told TimesLive.

Comitis though, has admitted that the while the club are reluctant to part with the player, they will not stand in Lakay’s way should they be able to find an adequate replacement.

“We are not against him moving on‚ but we would need to ensure that we have a player lined up who can replace him in our squad first,” Comitis explained.

"That is what we need to consider now and for the moment we do not have that. Nothing is finalised,” he added.

Meanwhile, City recently brought on board the services of Riyaad Norodien and Gift Links who are both wingers. But according to the report, City could be looking for a more central attacker considering Lakay’s versatility in City’s frontline.
