Majeed Waris and Moukandjo score as Lorient take big step towards survival

Lorient took another big step towards survival as they notched an emphatic 5-1 victory against Metz on Saturday with their African strikers Abdul Majeed Waris and Benjamin Moukandjo getting on the score sheet.

The undisputed star of the evening was French winger Jimmy Cabot who scored a brace while also grabbing a pair of assists for Les Merlus.

Mickael Ciani opened the scoring for Lorient on 13 minutes but Cheick Diabate equalised for Metz from the penalty spot before half-time.

Cameroon captain Moukandjo got the final goal on 78 minutes to seal the win and grab his 13th goal of Ligue 1.

The victory pushed Lorient up two places to 16th spot with 34 points. But they have to remain vigilant with four matches left in the season.

They have two away games against Nantes and Bastia but will host Angers and Bordeaux before the season ends on May 20.

Waris and Moukandjo have scored a combined 22 goals for Lorient this season.
