Klopp rules out Liverpool move for Hart ‘in the moment and in the future’

Jurgen Klopp has dismissed speculation linking Liverpool with a summer approach for Manchester City goalkeeper Joe Hart.

The England international, on a season-long loan at Torino, has no future under Pep Guardiola and will not be offered a Premier League return via Anfield.

Reports suggesting the Merseysiders are preparing a £20 million move for the 30-year-old were wide of the mark, with Klopp content to have Simon Mignolet and Loris Karius fighting to be his first-choice option in 2017-18.

Danny Ward is set to further the competition in that department after returning from his temporary spell at Huddersfield.

“We always think about the squad, and that includes the goalkeepers,” Klopp explained at Melwood on Thursday.

“Is it about Joe Hart? Usually we don’t talk about things like this, but in this specific case we can.

“He is a fantastic goalkeeper - the goalkeeper of the England national team - so he is highest quality. But we have the highest quality goalkeepers already.

“So he is not for us, not in the moment and hopefully not in the future.

“That’s not because of Joe, it’s because we have two strong goalkeepers and Wardy is at Huddersfield, playing a brilliant season, he’s ours so we will bring him back next season and then there is more competition.

“The young ones have made really big steps with Kamil [Grabara] and Caoimhin [Kelleher] and the situation around our goalkeepers is really good.”
