Happy Jele faces uncertain future at Orlando Pirates

Orlando Pirates defender Happy Jele faces a bleak future with the Soweto club yet to tie him down to a new deal, according to reports.

Jele has been an integral member of the club over the last decade, playing a prominent role in their double treble success between 2010 and 2012.

With his contract expiring at the end of this season, the club was expected to have opened up contract talks with him.

The 30-year-old will be free to negotiate and sign with a club of his choice in January as he will be in the final six months of his contract.

Sadly, the Mpumlanga-born player was part of the club’s drastic change in fortunes, in which they failed to reach the top eight for the first time in the PSL era.

Following his arrival in the 2006/07 season, Jele has managed 194 appearances in all competitions, finding the net nine times in the process.

His time in the Black and White has seen won two league titles, two MTN 8 and Nedbank Cup titles, and their first-ever Telkom Knockout title in 2011.

He also had the honour of playing two continental finals in the 2013 Caf Champions League final and the Caf Confederation Cup final two years later.
