Egypt defender Karim Hafez aims Russia 2018 World Cup spot

Lens defender Karim Hafez is targeting a place in Egypt’s squad for the 2018 Fifa World Cup in June.

The left-back who is on loan with the French Ligue 2 outfit from Lierse, suffered an ankle injury during a training session on January 24 and he is set for a second surgery before commencing his rehabilitation process.

With the Pharaohs gearing up for their first World Cup appearance since 1990, Hafez who made an appearance in the qualification series against Ghana in November 2017, has set a date for his return.

“I am always in contact with the national team’s coaching staff, I am getting ready from now to be part of the squad travelling to the World Cup, that is my current priority,” Hafez told KingFut.

“I am ready to make a second surgery, in order to start my five weeks rehabilitation period. I am expecting to get back to the field by mid-April.”

The Egypt defender who is on his second loan spell with  Lens has scored two goals in 17 appearances for Eric Sikora's side in the French Ligue 2 this campaign.
