Danjuma: Nigeria will cope without Opeyemi Sunday against Spain

Opeyemi Sunday will miss Nigeria’s quarter-final encounter with Spain but head coach Christopher Danjuma assures his side can cope without her in Concarneau on Thursday.

The defender, who has featured in every minute of Nigeria’s group stage matches in France, is suspended, having picked a yellow card each in her last two games against Haiti and China.

With the availability of Glory Ogbonna and Kemi Famuditi as replacements, the gaffer insists his side will not be lacking defensively against Pedro Lopez’s ladies.

“She has been impressive in every minute she had on the pitch and it is unfortunate that will be missing her services," Danjuma told Goal.

“But I can assure that the team will do well to cope with her absence. We have some other good players on the team and I think it’s time for them to get the chance to prove their worth too.”

Danjuma will be hoping to inspire the Falconets to overcome the Europeans Stade Guy Piriou, Concarneau as Nigeria seek to reach the semi-finals for the fourth time in history.
