AmaKhosi withdrew their players for the Chan tournament a few hours after Gordon Igesund had announced the squad, but Safa says all the players should be released
The South Africa Football Association (Safa) has confirmed that Kaizer Chiefs will release their players for the 2014 Chan tournament.
AmaKhosi had previously released a statement that none of their selected players will represent Bafana Bafana in the tournament, but Safa said the decision to move the Chiefs-Sundowns game was to accommodate the Chan tournament while at the same time allowing their players to take part.
"This meeting agreed that the match between Mamelodi Sundowns and Kaizer Chiefs scheduled for 28 January 2014 be brought forward to 23 January 2014, which is a rest period between the last round and quarter-finals of the Chan tournament," reads the statement on the Safa website.
"This decision was reported to all members who endorsed it as the final decision of the Committee.
"The above mentioned parties agreed that playing this match in January will alleviate the congestion for Kaizer Chiefs who are scheduled to take part in the Caf Champions League later in the season," the statement continued.
The PSL champions have Siphiwe Tshabalala, Itumeleng Khune, Tsepo Masilela, Tefu Mashamaite and Reneilwe Letsholonyane all selected for the Chan tournament although Letsholonyane has since withdrawn due to an injury.
