0-1 Bidvest Wits

The Students needed a hero to help them bounce back from their defeat to Free State Stars, and Moeneeb Josephs stepped up and produced a match winning performance against Golden Arrows in Durban. The former Pirates shot-stopper was imperious in goal as Wits held on to their 1-0 score to claim all three points and keep in touch with the rest of the title chasers. Josephs superbly denied Rudolph Bester in what should have been a goal on the night. It was Wits' 11th clean-sheet of the season, their best defensive record in a long time.

Congratulations to Moeneeb Josephs,'s 66th South Africa Player of the Week winner!

Honourable Mention

Tendai Ndoro - MP Black Aces

Ndoro struck two vital goals against Ajax Cape Town in the Mother City on Friday night. The Zimbabwean forward shocked the hosts with a second minute opener and secured all the points late in the game to lift AmaZayoni into the top eight.

Morgan Gould - Kaizer Chiefs

AmaKhosi may have been knocked out of the Caf Champions League, but Gould put his foot down and marshalled the Chiefs' defense that kept Mubele quiet for the entire game. He then took matters into his own hands and scored with a thumping shot to restore some hope of a miracle comeback in stoppage time.
Kamohelo Mokotjo – PEC Zwolle

The 23-year-old Mokotjo played a central role as his side, PEC Zwolle booked a place in the final of the Dutch Cup with a 2-1 win over NEC Nijmegen last week. The former SuperSport United player now stands a good chance of playing Europa League football next season as they face champions elect Ajax Amsterdam in the final later next month.

Each week our team of writers will put forward a selected candidate, as chosen by South Africa, who deserves recognition for achieving something special that matchday.

It won't necessarily be the best player in the country - at least not usually - but whoever we crown will have accomplished something amazing. It might be for a particularly awesome performance or for something praiseworthy off the pitch - either way, the person in question deserves special attention...
