thumbnail Hello,

Tshabalala sparked South Africa to a 3-0 win over Central African Republic with an inspirational performance for the national side

South Africa Player of the Week
Siphiwe Tshabalala
AGE 28
POSITION Midfielder
TEAM South Africa
Central African Republic
0-3 South Africa

Initially a surprise selection, Tshabalala repaid Gordon Igesund's faith with a five-star performance against Central African Republic on Saturday. After a cagey beginning to the match South Africa's win was ignited by a pulsating run from the Kaizer Chiefs midfielder, followed by a pinpoint through ball which allowed Bernard Parker to tap home from close range. Shabba was not done yet and after a mesmerising piece of combination play with Tokelo Rantie, he showed great composure to round CAR goalkeeper Yezzoat and score South Africa's vital second goal. Tshabalala's impact was definitive in the end, as Bafana Bafana held on to their first half lead and added to it late in second stanza, with Katlego Mashego scoring a close range header to make it 3-0.

Congratulations to Simphiwe Tshabalala's 34th South Africa Player of the Week winner!

Honourable Mention

Bernard Parker - Bafana Bafana

Parker was influential during Bafana Bafana's 3-0 win over CAR. After scoring the opening goal, the Kaizer Chiefs marksman continued to be an important figure in attack, carving out a few more chances as the game continued.

Amanda Dlamini - Banyana Banyana

The South African women's football side was inspired to a 5-0 win through Dlamini's excellent performance against Mozambique on Sunday. Dlamini's creativity resulted in two goals and she capped off her performance with her own strike late on in the international friendly.
Thabo Nthethe - Bafana Bafana

The Bloemfontein Celtic defender marshalled a largely untested South African defensive line-up well and helped his side keep a clean sheet against CAR. Nthethe will seek to sustain his performance levels for Bafana Bafana's next match against Ethiopia.

Each week our team of writers will put forward a selected candidate, as chosen by South Africa, who deserves recognition for achieving something special that matchday.

You can also help us choose a worthy recipient of the weekly accolade by leaving your nominations and comments. Your suggestions will be taken into consideration.

It won't necessarily be the best player in the country - at least not usually - but whoever we crown will have accomplished something amazing. It might be for a particularly awesome performance or for something praiseworthy off the pitch - either way, the person in question deserves special attention...
