The gruelling, cagey Nedbank Cup final at the Moses Mabhida Stadium needed a spark of inspiration. Destined for a penalty shoot-out Kaizer Chiefs mounted an assault on SuperSport United's tiring defensive unit. SuperSport's brave resistance finally crumbled when Bernard Parker unleashed a pinpoint strike past a despairing dive from Ronwen Williams. Parker's goal ended the contest as Chiefs held onto their lead until the final whistle at the end of 120 minutes. A largely uninspiring afternoon was set alight by Parker's memorable goal, securing Chiefs first Nedbank Cup victory since 2006.

Congratulations to Bernard Parker's 32nd South Africa Player of the Week winner!

Honourable Mention

Edwin Gyimah- SuperSport United

The man of the match during the Nedbank Cup final, Gyimah was a rock at the back for SuperSport United, working tirelessly throughout the extended match. Last ditch tackles and blocks were the order of the day for the defender, but there was little more he could do to stop Chiefs from winning the title.

Ronwen Williams - SuperSport United

Williams provided some excellent saves to defy Chiefs, the best denying a powerful Tshabalala drive with an acrobatic stop. The young talent was not at fault for the opening goal and would have been proud of his efforts on the afternoon.
Willard Katsande - Kaizer Chiefs

Chiefs hard man in the midfield provided strong challenges throughout Saturday afternoon's tie. His control over the middle of the park meant that SuperSport struggled to build towards goal and helped Chiefs to keep a clean sheet throughout the final.

Each week our team of writers will put forward a selected candidate, as chosen by South Africa, who deserves recognition for achieving something special that matchday.

You can also help us choose a worthy recipient of the weekly accolade by leaving your nominations and comments. Your suggestions will be taken into consideration.

It won't necessarily be the best player in the country - at least not usually - but whoever we crown will have accomplished something amazing. It might be for a particularly awesome performance or for something praiseworthy off the pitch - either way, the person in question deserves special attention...
