Chippa United's stay in the top-flight looks improbable after a late Dennis Masina goal secured victory for Mpumalanga Black Aces
Chippa will still play both Aces and Santos in their attempts to stay in the PSL, but the defeat means results will need to go their way if they are to retain their PSL status.
A cagey affair at the Themba Senamela Stadium saw Aces fashion the first chance fo the match, when Tshidiso Mosikidi missed from close range.
Chippa began to create chances as the match took shape, with William Twala heading wide 16 minutes in. Setjhaba Mmuso was guilty of spurning a good chance just before half-time, after Sandile Zuke's run produced some space for the striker but he fired his shot wide.
The game was devoid of clear cut chances in the second half and Chippa United seemed to be heading to their second successive playoff draw, but Black Aces had other ideas.
Substitute Dennis Masina controlled a defence-splitting long ball provided by Enrico Adolph and placed his shot past an onrushing Tashrique Goldman to put Aces in the lead with 88 minutes on the clock.
The Chilli Boys tried to equalise late on via a James Okwuosa's header, but his desperate attempt went wide and the match ended in defeat for Mark Harrison's side.
