The Free State Stadium has always been a difficult venue to travel to in South African football, but Kaizer Chiefs have survived two trips to Bloemfontein in a fortnight. A 3-0 win in the PSL has been followed by a 1-0 triumph in the Nedbank Cup. During their second match against the Phunya Sele Sele Ithumeleng Khune stepped up to the plate once again with some superb saves which helped Chiefs stave off a barrage of attacks from the confident home side. Khune was hailed as the difference by both coaches after the game, with Stuart Baxter calling the Bafana Bafana keeper - "The best on the continent". Khune's form for both club and country has helped both outfits prosper in recent times and the keeper deserves to be named Player of the Week due to his continued excellence and exploits in goal.

Congratulations to Itumeleng Khune Goal.com's 26th South Africa Player of the Week winner!

Honourable Mention

George Maluleka- SuperSport United

George Maluleka scored a brilliant individual goal against Maritzburg United and won the man of the match award. His distribution of possession was also superb, all the more impressive after a 2 month lay-off. He was the difference in making sure United progressed to the next round and possibly defend their title.

Thuso Phala- Platinum Stars

Phala was once again inspirational for Dikwena against Mamelodi Sundowns. He netted the equaliser and was an instrumental force throughout the Nedbank cup tie, which saw Platinum Stars prevail 2-1.
Teko Modise- Mamelodi Sundowns

The Brazilians may not have won the match, but the "General" was in fine form during their 2-1 loss against Platinum Stars. He scored the opener of the match and was one of the few Sundowns players who looked dangerous in possession.

Each week our team of writers will put forward a selected candidate, as chosen by Goal.com South Africa, who deserves recognition for achieving something special that matchday.

You can also help us choose a worthy recipient of the weekly accolade by leaving your nominations and comments. Your suggestions will be taken into consideration.

It won't necessarily be the best player in the country - at least not usually - but whoever we crown will have accomplished something amazing. It might be for a particularly awesome performance or for something praiseworthy off the pitch - either way, the person in question deserves special attention...
