Lekgwathi: Orlando Pirates are underdogs against Platinum Stars

It remains to be seen whether Lekgwathi will keep his place in Roger de Sa’s starting line-up following Rooi Mahamutsa’s return from a wrist injury

Orlando Pirates captain Lucky Lekgwathi has accepted the underdog tag as they face Platinum Stars in the Telkom Knockout Cup final on Saturday night.

Dikwena are currently fourth on the PSL log and remain the only team with the trophy this season (the MTN 8), and Lekgwathi is convinced that Stars are favourites.

“We are underdogs,” Lekgwathi told reporters. “They beat us (in the MTN 8 final) and they are on top of their game,” he said.

Lekgwathi added that they don’t want to put themselves under pressure especially looking at the fact that they have failed to win two finals already this season, but said that they want to give their fans an early Christmas present with a win tonight.

“If you look at the log, we are bottom and they are fourth, so they are favourites. For us, we don’t want to put ourselves under pressure, we have already been in two finals, and we want to make our supporters happy by winning the trophy, and giving them an early Christmas present,” added Lekgwathi.
