thumbnail Hello,

Schut was part of the Sundowns team that lost to Bloem Celtic in the final of the same tournament last season and he is certainly looking to avenge the result

Mamelodi Sundowns captain Alje Schut has told Goal that they will be going to Free State to face Bloemfontein Celtic with last season’s Telkom Knockout Cup final at the back of their minds.

Joel Mogorosi’s controversial goal was enough to hand Celtic their first major title since 2005, and Schut says the Brazilians are going there for a win.

“We haven’t forgotten how they beat us in the final last season. It was disappointing that the goal was a bit controversial, but we are starting on a new slate and a win on Sunday will do,” Schut told Goal.

The 32-year-old Schut took time to reflect on last season’s poor run and he believes they were more desperate for results than they are at the moment, and he is hoping to lift the trophy at the end of the year.

“I think one of the factors that led to us having a poor run last season was that we were desperate for results to go our way. We wanted to bounce back immediately after every defeat,” said Schut.

He added: “We have learnt our lesson and we are calm this season. The new players have fitted well into the system and I am sure I will be able to lift this trophy in December.”
