Khune: Kaizer Chiefs not thinking of potential Orlando Pirates MTN8 final

Amakhosi captain Itumeleng Khune spoke to the media ahead of their MTN8 semi final second leg against Platinum Stars this weekend

Chiefs beat Dikwena 2-0 away from in the first leg of the semi-final, while Bucs similarly beat Bidvest Wits 2-0 away.

Fans are already anticipating a classic Soweto Derby for the final, but the Amakhosi skipper wants his forces to focus on Platinum Stars to avoid slipping up.

“We are only focused on the Platinum Stars game for now, because our motto is to take it one game at a time,” Khune told the media.

“It is very important that we don’t look beyond the next game because we might end up trapping ourselves by looking far ahead into the future when the immediate challenge is the next game. It is very important that we focus on the next game on Sunday, and after jumping this hurdle we can then start thinking about the Final,” he said.

The only way we won't get a derby in the final is if one of the favourites become complacent and allow their opposition through the back door. One mustn't forget that Stars won the MTN8 and Telkom KO against the odds last season, so they are capable of causing an upset.

“It is going to be a tough game because Platinum Stars gave us a tough game especially in the first half, but we were able to contain them. We believe in transition. We believe in attacking our opponents while they are still disorganised and that is what we will be doing on Sunday,” he says.
