The 25-year-old midfielder bagged a brace during AmaKhosi's 4-0 drubbing over Mpumalanga Black Aces in the MTN 8 on Sunday afternoon

Kaizer Chiefs coach Stuart Baxter has revealed that Mandla Masango was close to being loaned out as he struggled to make the team in the past.

Goal reported a while ago that Masango refused to join Moroka Swallows on loan last month, and he was said to have been transfer listed immediately afterwards.

However, it looks like the Kwaggafontein-born player will be given another chance in Baxter's starting line-up this season, for as long as he remains consistent.

"Everyone knows that Mandla has been close to being loaned out in the past," Baxter told reporters.

"I said to him before the game: 'Look, you may have gotten in here through the back door a little bit, but why not throw the cat among the pigeons and see if you can shake people up' and he did that. I'm sure now he will be looking forward to the week's training," added the Chiefs coach.

Masango has been with Chiefs since 2008, and despite a promising career that saw him represent South Africa at all junior levels, he never really convinced senior national team selectors that he deserves to be in the Bafana squad on a regular basis.
