Lekgwathi, who has been with Pirates for over a decade now, has been handed a new contract, the club confirmed on Monday

Orlando Pirates have announced that captain Lucky Lekgwathi has been offered a new deal that will see him wear the club's colours again this season.

The veteran defender has been out of contract since July 1, and didn't play a part in Bucs' 2-1 victory over SuperSport United on Saturday.

However, his contract had been extended and he will be in contention for the upcoming league fixture against Moroka Swallows at the Orlando Stadium.

"Lekgwathi, who turned 38 last Friday, has been offered a new deal by the club, which will see him wearing the team's colours in the new season," said a statement on the Pirates website.

Lekgwathi has been with Pirates for 12 years now, and remains one of the important members of the team despite his age.

Pirates chairman Dr Irvin Khoza revealed during the club's awards ceremony that Lekgwathi will be given a role in management when he decides to retire from professional football.
