Goal can exclusively reveal that defender Thabo Matlaba wants out of Orlando Pirates

The 26-year-old Matlaba, who is reportedly on the wanted list of Mamelodi Sundowns and several European clubs, doesn't enjoy working with coach Vladimir Vermezovic.

Matlaba's teammate (at Pirates) told Goal that the Tembisa-born defender is not in good terms with Vermezovic and that the he's disclosed to his close friends that he wants to leave the Soweto giants.

"Matlaba wants out of Pirates. His relationship with the new coach (Vladimir Vermezovic) is not healthy. VV doesn't like Matlaba at all, and it is for this reason he wants to leave the club," said Matlaba's teammate, who asked to remain anonymous.

Goal understands that Matlaba and Vermezovic had an altercation during one of the training sessions towards the end of last season, and that's where it all started.

The speedy wing-back was also reported to have signed a pre-contract with Bucs rivals Kaizer Chiefs, but it later emerged that it was just speculation.

Matlaba's lawyer Vincent Madela of Madela Attorneys, didn't want to be drawn into his client's relationship with the current Bucs coach, and opted to emphasize that the player is still contracted to Pirates.

"I'm his lawyer, and I can confirm that he's still contract to Pirates until next June. So whatever negotiations for his next move will take place next June," Madala told Goal.

"I cannot comment on what's happening when he's at Pirates. I don't have that information on my desk because I'm only his lawyer," he added.

Goal contacted Matlaba's agent Abbie Rasimphi of Liberate Resources Sports Management, who said that the player is, at this stage, concentrating on seeing through his contract with Pirates, and couldn't commit as to whether Matlaba will renew his contract with the Sea Robbers.

"Matlaba is now concentrating on doing well next season and seeing through the remainder of his contract with Pirates.

"Whether he will renew his contract when it comes to an end next year I cannot say, but any possible contract extension or renewal or anything that has to do with his future is off discussion for now," Rasimphi told Goal.
