Orlando Pirates have confirmed that Roger de Sa has resigned as the club head coach with immediate effect

The Pirates coach handed his resignation earlier today, and after a long meeting, the club was unable to convince Roger de Sa to stay.

The club confirmed on their official wesbite this afternoon, and De Sa thanked the club for the fond memories during his time at Pirates.

"I will always be appreciative and I take with me fond memories of my time at the club," Roger de Sa told the Pirates website. "I wish everybody at the club including the technical team, players and management success in the future," he said.

Pirates have confirmed that Eric Tinkler will be in charge of the first team while the search for the new head coach begins.

De Sa's resignation was accepted by the Bucs' chairman Dr Irvin Khoza who wished the 49-year-old mentor well, and he believes that De Sa still has what it takes to win the Caf Champions League with another club.

"I know Roger would have loved to add the second golden star to the Orlando Pirates logo. He now knows how to get there. All that is left is for him to clinch it. A feat I have no doubt he will achieve in his career as a coach.

"Roger leaves Orlando Pirates with an enhanced CV. I wish him well in his future endeavours,” said Dr Irvin Khoza.
