The 29-year-old Bafana Bafana centre-back will provide competition to the likes of Rashid Sumaila and Wayne Arendse in the Sundowns defence

Mamelodi Sundowns have signed Bloemfontein Celtic captain Thabo Nthethe to reinforce their defence for the next four years.

Nthethe has been on the wanted list of the Brazilians for quite some time now, and Orlando Pirates were also thought to be interested in his services.

The news was confirmed by Sundowns’ PRO Kabelo Mosito who also revealed that Nthethe will join his new teammates as soon as possible to prepare for their game against Golden Arrows.

“We have just signed Nthethe from Celtic. It’s a four-year deal,” Mosito told Goal. “The player will join his teammates as soon as possible to prepare for our next game against Arrows,” he added.

Nthethe was never willing to move to Gauteng before the start of the current season and therefore renewed his contract with Celtic, but Sundowns managed to convince him to reconsider and move.
