The 29-year-old Mphela signed a pre-contract with Chiefs earlier this month, and AmaKhosi were keen to have the player now rather than next season

AmaKhosi were engaged in talks with the Brazilians for Mphela’s early release after the 29-year-old had signed a pre-contract with the PSL champions.
However, it seems like the Naturena-based outfit has failed to reach an agreement with the Tshwane giants, and Mphela will only complete his move to Chiefs next season.
“The two teams were negotiating, but let me assure you now that Mphela will only join Chiefs at the end of his contract with us,” Mosito told Goal.
The South African international missed Sundowns’ mid-season tour to Zambia, and the club later confirmed that Mphela disappeared two days prior to their trip.
Nonetheless, ‘Killer’ is currently training with the rest of his teammates in Chloorkop although it remains to be seen if he will ever don the Sundowns shirt.
“Mphela is training with the team, as he continues to honour his contract,” added Mosito.
Chiefs will pay no transfer fee for Mphela, who will fill the void left by Lehlohonolo Majoro. Majoro has since signed a pre-contract with arch-rivals Orlando Pirates.
