Moroka Swallows have confirmed the signing of striker Edward Manqele from Mamelodi Sundowns, at the same time confirming that Katlego Mashego has moved to the Brazilians.

Mashego has been linked with a move to Sundowns since finishing as the league’s top goalscorer with 13 goals from 22 starts last season.

The Bafana striker had previously revealed that he would like to stay at Swallows and that the club would decide if he stays or leaves, because he was still contracted to them.

“Manqele’s agent phoned me last night asking me what time is our training session this morning, because Manqele is joining us. I haven’t spoken to Leon Prins yet, but I think it’s a done deal,” Zeca Marques tells Goal.

“The club wouldn’t bring Manqele if we still had Mashego. He has gone to Sundowns,” he added.

Manqele has had a disastrous first season with Sundowns having signed from Free State Stars at the beginning of last season.

He was amongst the league’s top goalscorers during his first PSL season at Ea Lla Koto, but a move to Sundowns proved fruitless as he struggled to find the back of the net on a regular basis.

It remains to be seen whether the two strikers will feature for their new clubs this weekend with Swallows in action against AmaTuks on Saturday and Sundowns away to Bloem Celtic on Sunday afternoon.
