After two years out of the Premier Soccer League, former AmaZulu midfielder speaks exclusively to Goal, about his comeback, this time with Arrows
Ngxabi told Goal that not even for a single moment did he give up on making a comeback in the PSL. Not everyone is fortunate enough to return the top flight football, especially if they have been out of action, not even for a national first division side.
“I am still humble about what just happened. I have been keeping fit as an individual, especially doing gym sessions and a bit of running. There is no club that I was playing for per say except the social league for former professionals where I was not even a regular,” said Ngxabi.
29-year-old Ngxabi signed a one year contract with Golden Arrows under Manqoba Mngqithi, who was the same coach that let him go at AmaZulu. Ngxabi said his relationship with Mngithi is solid and even whilst at Usuthu there was never tension between them.
“There is nothing between me and Mngqithi, in fact there was never even tension back then. I must say that I am grateful to him for giving me a second chance in life. He believes in me so much on the field and outside the field as well,” said Ngxabi.
The player holds a Sports Management Diploma and started training with Golden Arrows towards the end of last season. He says he is adapting to the style of play that is expected from him.
“I have been here for quite some time. I am slowly finding my feet on the ground. I want to do well for Golden Arrows. I think I owe them my life for what they did to revive my career when nobody wanted to sign me,” he said.
Speaking about his aims, he said he does not have any specific goals, except to take on the challenge and excel for the team.
“I think the most important thing is to do well for the club in this one year contract that I have. I know that the club needs results and I am taking that as a challenge,” said Ngxabi.
He also told Goal that on Saturday, he was involved in the squad that played in the tournament in Johannesburg and things are looking good for the club.
