Sundowns’ media officer Thulani Thuswa tells Goal that striker Katlego Mphela would be allowed to join Hull City should the English side approach them

Mamelodi Sundowns have confirmed that striker Katlego Mphela would be allowed to join the newly promoted EPL side Hull City amid reports that manager Steve Bruce wants to sign the Bafana forward.

However, the Brazilians revealed that no formal approach has been made by the English side for the services of Mphela.

“We only saw the reports that Hull City wants Mphela, but on behalf of Sundowns, I can confirm that no formal approach has been made by Hull City or Steve Bruce.

“I doubt his agent (Glyn Binkin) has been approached either, because he would have informed the club by now,” Thuswa told Goal.

Thuswa also confirmed that any player including Mphela would be allowed to sign with any European club should they come forward with formal offers.

“Sundowns will not stand in Mphela’s or any other player’s way. If any European team wants him then he will be allowed to leave regardless of how much that particular team is willing to offer.

“The player wants to play in Europe and we don’t see the reason why we should deny him that if the opportunity presents itself,” added Thuswa.

Although the 28-year-old Mphela did not have a successful 2012/2013 season at Sundowns, he has been one of their best performers since joining from SuperSport United back in 2008.
