Former Bafana Bafana and Bidvest Wits coach Clive Barker has told Goal that he was aware that Gavin Hunt will join the team as the new coach as from next season, but he said the matter was discussed behind the closed doors.
The formal announcement was made earlier today (Wednesday) that Hunt has asked to be released by SuperSport United with two more years to run on his contract.
“The means to bring Gavin to the team was discussed long before the announcement today, but it was always behind the closed doors and I was aware of it,” Barker told Goal.
“I personally wish Gavin the best of luck. He’s a good coach and he has achieved a lot in his coaching career and I know he will do well for Wits,” he said.

Barker confirmed that he has been summoned to a meeting with the Bidvest Wits management to decide on his future, but he hopes to stay if the Johannesburg-based club wants to retain him.
“I am having a meeting with the management of the club on June 11, and we will take it from there. If they want to keep me then I am happy to stay, but if they don’t then life goes on,” added Barker.
“There hasn’t been any offers for me as yet, but I am sure Wits will create some position for me if they still want my service. I wouldn’t mind being Gavin’s assistant, but we will have to see how the meeting goes,” said Barker.
The former AmaZulu mentor is however, keeping his options wide open as he revealed that he would be more than happy to coach at SuperSport United.
