Pirates coach Roger De Sa is looking to bring some stability into his team with new signings during the January transfer windowGoal.com South Africa has been reliably informed that there are two Zimbabwean players that are hoping to impress the Orlando Pirates’ technical team.
A source within the Pirates’ camp confirmed that there is a striker and a defender on trial and that the two players took part in a friendly match against Bidvest Wits last Thursday.
“I can confirm that there are two players that are training with us and they are from Zimbabwe. Ronny Chipiyo is a striker and the defender’s name is Byron Madzokere. The technical team gave them a chance to play last week Thursday against Wits but they haven’t been offered any contracts,” explained the source.
Orlando Pirates is also believed to be on the verge of signing Maritzburg United defender Mohamed Awal. However, Pirates’ number of foreign players could be a stumbling block if they are to land three of the players in Parktown.
“I don’t think they will all sign because we already have (Collins) Mbesuma, Onyekachi (Okonkwo), Rudolf Bester and Takesure (Chinyama). Maybe they could be signed next season, because the Caf Champions League squad has been released," revealed the source.
The Parktown-based team is busy preparing for the 2013 Caf Champions League opener against Comoros side Djabala FC on the weekend of February 16/17.
